15 Advanced 2020 Battery life

I am getting a 35W+ discharge on a new Blade 15 Advanced (2020) in maximum power saving mode with one browser window and no apps running. I can't get it down to below 10 watts unless I disable wifi. That makes battery life about 1hr45 or so.

I have a support ticket in about this but am curious if anyone else has had the same experience.

If turning WiFi on made it so high maybe some updates background or 3rd party apps consume battery a lot. For example on my case with blade 15 2018 advanced, hp center, Cloud data apps, some gpu related softwares like MSI afterburner or Razer gpu Switcher apparently Take or bug optimus battery performance, turning it off improve the battery life, on power saving mode, 60Hz screen and keyboard dimming to around 25%, backlight logo turn off, it consumes under 10 watt which means around 6 hours plus on 80Wh capacity. I saw people reset their pc to get good battery life after their battery life getting worse, looks to me kind software bugs or windows version that may bug Optimus function. Yes kind difficult and a lot hassle to get stable good battery life on windows laptops especially that contains powerful hardware.

Mines not a 2020 model. But Ive had a bug before on my 2019 advanced where it would not go below 35w on idle as well. A complete reset fixed it and I now sit around 7-10w on low usage (browser open and light browsing or typing up an assignment on word). I get anywhere from 8-10hrs on my 80wh battery now.

Which internet browser are you using?

Personally, I'm using Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) and it's drawing about 24W with 10 tabs open. I didn't really have a positive experience with Google Chrome ever since they had a lot of bloating and resource hogging that eats up a lot of CPU and battery.
I'm at 35W with no browser open at all.

I tried switching from Optimus to dedicated GPU and while it boots, the display is blank.

If you disable igpu (intel) the internal screen will off since it’s controlled by it, changing to dedicated gpu (nvidia) will make same result (bad battery life). Did you try resetting the blade? If you get better battery life after resetting then maybe windows update (new version) isn’t optimized yet for your system I’d stay on old build if battery life is a matter.
