165w Power Adapter Issue - need help!

Hi

I have an issue with my power adapter that it'll only charge when the cable, at the 90 degree angle will only charge when it is tightly bent. This just randomly happened after having the power adapter lying around at the exact same position for like a month and not touching it. The cable was always in a normal position, nothing was bent etc.

I went through a big procedure to finally boil the issue down to this part of the cord. FIrst talking to razer support, which was totally useless. They basically asked me for a lot of informations from model numbers to receipts etc. only to tell me in the end that I would have to order the spare power adapter from the razer store. Which is not even available. It has been out of stock for a VERY long time and they were not able to help me any further with future availability dates. Useless.

I ended up going to an electrician and we measured the power outtage, it was down to 1-3 volts. Argh. Obviously not enough power to charge my computer. So I ran from shop to shop to see if anybody had replacement power bricks. No chance, regular notebooks dont run on 165w obviously.

Nevertheless, after ordering a replacement brick online (which was like double the size btw) I went crazy while waiting for it, being so upset at Razer for acting like Apple, but without the necessary service and quality support. Razer products are not cheap. If you wanna ball with the big bois and provide top-notch products with super unique parts that can only be replaced by Razer. Then for gods sake, make sure that you can also replace it when needed!!!

Anyway, rant over, here is what helped me, but its only a temporary solution: I bought my own multimeter and measured the power output while at the same time fiddling around with the cable. And tadaaaa.. I found out that the cable, that sticks out of the 90 degree part, has to be tightly bent in order for it to charge. The power output is constant at 20v ..so I am assuming the cord there broke, but when bent nice and firm, its still letting enough power flow through.

Now I know, this will not last forever, and I dont want to end up in a situation where I am unable to use my computer for weeks again. I am very dependandt as I earn my money with it.

As I said, I am unable to order a spare charger, so the only solution I can think of is: Order a replica charger that is fucking huge (not preferred) or try to fix the cord.

Has anyone cut the cord open and done some basic soldering on it? I am thinking, as a last resort, I will try that... basically, the cord is long enough. I just have to cut the bit that is causing issues off and solder it back together.

Any advice/help welcome! I.e. if you know any stores that can provide me a genuine razer power brick or have had the same issue before and solved it by cutting/soldering the cord - let me know pls.

I’ll change the tag to support hope staff will pick you up there, however yes it might be cord issue and I wouldn’t recommend if you’re using such way and on 90 degrees, it might be dangerous. I think you can’t purchase same adapter since it’s old model but who know you can ask further support staff.
Meanwhile I would maybe check 3rd party adapter since it’s universal jack you have to only find the appropriate specs, I think it’s better than using “broken“ ac adapter. I had Blade 14 2015 and 2017 the ac adapter was hot but I don’t think it’s 90 degrees btw.

You can go to amazon or ebay to buy a compatible charger for your razer laptop. It will likely cost you around USD$50 bucks. Majority of all different brands of laptops chargers are either made by factories from taiwan or china. no companies will manufacture their charging bricks.

It is much safer to buy a brand new one than to solder cables. The wattage running thru the cables are high and a poor solder joint might give you electrical or fire hazard problems.
