2019 Razer Blade 15 2080 Purchase

Well, I bit the bullet and bought myself one of the new Razer Blade 15 2080s. I've got to say that my first impressions are very good. I'm coming from a 2016 MacBook Pro 15 and I was hesitant to move back to a Windows laptop because the build quality on MacBooks is just so good IMO but I really missed being able to play games when I traveled.

I've got a couple issues that I'm wondering if they are normal or worth exchanging the laptop out for a different one. I'd definitely appreciate some feedback.

1. The center of the touchpad seems to be slightly elevated and makes an audible click noise when you rest your finger on it without really applying much pressure at all.
2. There is some minor backlight bleed in the bottom left corner of the screen.

I got lucky No backlight bleed no dead or stuck pixel.

Interesting. I don't have any stuck pixels myself but I'm considering rolling the dice on a new one to hopefully get rid of the backlight bleed.
I bought one and I dont see any problems with it. Ive had it for a few days now. The only complaint is the advanced model 2080 does not have enough SSD space. I need another 250-500gb for a few more choice games.

you can always swap out the SSD yourself with a bigger one 🙂
Hi... Razer newbie here... Can I ask if anyone has an opinion on what the 2080rtx model battery is like for productivity? It's still TBD on the website.

How do you manage to afford it by the way ? I agree, other windows laptop just could not compete with the great Macbook pro
I also have (Minor) backlight bleed
And in addition a bit of Coil Whine.

But nothing which really hurts me, since I use external screen and most times using application, which forcing the fan to run louder than the Coil Whine.

And in addition a bit of (I am not really aware of the correct wording in english :D) Spools surren.
In German we have a dedicated term for it, but I doubt that even this is an official word "Spulenfieben"

Do you mean „“Spulenfiepen“, Coil Whine?

My favorite thing about MacBooks is their touchpad. I feel like the Razer touchpad gets pretty close but still leaves a little something to be desired for me. As to how I afford it, I mean that just really varies from person to person on what is or is not affordable. Ya, it's an expensive laptop, but I use my laptops quite a bit and they generally last me 3 or so years, so to me it's rationale enough to spend the money.

This was one of my biggest concerns too and I don't have a lot of data to go on yet, but from my initial uses of just doing basic stuff, it's not terrible, but it's not great either. If I adjust the screen brightness down to 25-50% and use the battery saver option, I seem to be getting about 5-6 hours. I know there are people that undervolt their computers to get longer battery life out of them, but I have not done a whole lot of research on that, so I can't really speak to it.

I would love to see some performance benchmarks/temps etc if you get the chance. I hope it turns out to be a beast machine!
Currently I only made some Forza Horizon 4 comparison with the blade 2018 with 1070 and also a 2080 in a razer core.
But please feel free to ask sth i can run for you.
We can run the same at a 1070, too since my old 1070 blade was handovered to a friend of mine 😃

Egpu setting bottleneck would be huge on 1080p, try 4K it’ll be less. For 1080p high FPS I prefer also on Blade dGPU. Forza Horizon 4 is showing TB3 bandwidth limitation means bad for egpu setting.
If you’ve 2080maxq you won’t need egpu setting, at least for now. Here’s my FH4 benchmarks with egpu setting and Blade 15 1070mq. And title that take advantage on egpu setting. Note I’m doing all my benchmarks on ultra setting so I can compare with FPS achievement on notebookcheck like 2080mq, even sometimes there’s a bit difference due Laptops specs like gpu tdp, cpu, ram Dual/single slot etc.
Yep thats the reason I've trashed my Core and 2080 and upgraded the blade to have the 2080 internaly :)
So the Benhcmarks wher enot that good and I do not have a 4k screen and do not want to upgrade at all, I prefer to have more details and more frames than just more pixels 🙂

Yes it’s personal matter, I play sometimes OW and other competitive titles, those are enough with 1070 to max 144Hz, but on some other titles with beautiful environment like SoTR, Destiny 2, Battlefront 2 I prefer resolution than FPS, I’m getting used to at least 1440p, though still must reaching 60fps. I get high fps in 4K like on battlefront 2 and SoTR that 1070mq cannot handle. Maybe current 2080mq can handle but egpu setting overall temperature would be always better than gaming on dgpu, sharing heat with enclosure make huge improvement on cpu temperature. I’ll show cpu temperatures playing around an hour AC Oddysey with egpu setting, a dream 70ish 6 cores temperature and it’s no repasting tweaks or turbo amplifier limitation:smile_:
Yeah for sure temp.is a critical benefit of eGPU. But for now I am totally satisfied with the dGPU 2080 I am fully mobile ready 😃.
Another challenge is my ultra wide screen with twice fhd resolution, if I upgrade this to wqhd or even 4k (not sure if this is available) it will take more than 4k or double 4k pixel amount. So no GPU can run this.

After all I am gaming most of my times, still on Xbox on my TV screens, since I like couch gaming and this massive screen, even in comparison to my 49" ultra wide 😃

My pixel density 5120x1440p (2 1440p) is actually higher than yours and I play sometimes for fun 7680x1440p (2 1440p plus 1 portable usb c 1440p;) still playable though only maybe around 50ish but waaay smoother than PS4 Pro or maybe Xbox one:)
Ah okay yeah this is indeed much more pixels to calculate. And for those your getting ~60fps.
... but yeah you had the 2080ti, right? But still brilliant.

And for sure consoles are not giving that much of pixels or even frames. for forza i need to choose 60hz or 4k for example. but I am sitting back on the couch, so at least for the pixel count, you wont see a difference :D
But yeah so basically I am a console gamer, I primarily playing "play anywhere" games at the PC. Since so my GF can use the big screen and we can play together, even we also have two One Xs - but for sure the blade deliveries more power.

Currently started to play Crackdown 3 this looks not really impresive at blade, but i think at PC at all. But forza or even Sea of Thieves looks great in ultra wide.
And sure BFV, SotT and now Metro are extremly sexy games, with a great benefit played on PC MasterRace 😃

Are you able to show some benchmarks with afterburner and overclocks to the GPU etc? Maybe run XTU/HWINFO64 along side to monitor things. Would love to see!

It’s already surpassed my core setting on syntactic benchmark. It’ll go further with upcoming optimization I believe. Thermals seems great with higher fans Rpm than 2018 advanced.

HI, I tried to use Afterburner, as I did before.
But since I am not that "Pro" I only using the auto OC thing yet.
And during this I am ending up in BSOD each time :D

Also tried some settings in Throttlestop, but not giving better performance in any kind. :D

But I will add some futuremark 3D results later

Yeah OC Scanner isn’t great it may higher or lower, best things is you look at similar specs OC value or starting a bit higher than default OC (Synapse gaming mode) and increasing manually till crash:Don 3Dmark. I think by default gaming mode it’ll be some + on gpu core and memory, you can check by put it on gaming mode and open afterburner.
Btw bsod usually cause by too low cpu undervolting OC usually only 3Dmark stop or crash.
yep it just got killed in step two of oc scanner. So I did not investigated further, even since thermal will be a limiter all the time. And I had not the time to play along a bit more with afterburner.
For now will post out of the box result in 3d mark and maybe i find some time at weekend to play with afterburner 😉

Yes, stress your Blade everyday to know how it holds and how far can it goes. After that you can use it for gaming etc. Post HWINFO64 (stay on when benchmarks running) screenshot as well to know how it performs.
Here are two 3D mark results.

Do you need a screenshot from HWinfo in the situation the benchmark is running, or does HWinfo have sth like a log to show you, once benchmark completed?
