First off some background on this. Way back in 1998 or 1999 (it's all a blur now) I signed up to pre-order this thing called a "gaming mouse". It was the Razer Boomslang, and it was awesome! My first mouse arrived and there was a issue with the tracking, not a big problem, but enough that I contacted Razer and asked for a replacement. They sent me out one super fast, and asked that I return the original one or else they were going to charge my Visa for the second mouse. All I had to do was call UPS with a order number they provided me and they would pick it up and ship it back. I packed up the original mouse...and never called UPS. In time I forgot all about it. Razer billed me again, as was their right, and the mouse in it's original package wound up in a storage bin, where it sat...until today.

A few weeks ago I bought a new laptop, for gaming on (I know, I know) and for doing some video editing work. I needed a mouse and immediately thought of Razer. I had followed the company at a distance and had even bought a Chimera 5.1 several years ago for my Xbox 360. I settled on the Ouroboros because I'm a sucker for buying the "top of the line" products. That and the Mamba Chroma is not readily available to me right now. But I have my eyes on a Mamba TE at my local friendly computer store.

Anyway, using the Ouroboros reminded me of the Boomslang I had squirreled away in the basement. Two of them actually. So after digging around in various Rubbermaid containers I found this...

So I thought you guys might enjoy seeing a retro unboxing of the first ever Razer product pretty much exactly as it would have come from the manufacturer all the way back in the 90's.

    Let's see what's inside...

Exactly as I originally received it.

Even back then Razer made an impression with their packaging.

    Certified! ;)

Thanks Razer Guy, you don't know how prophetic your words were.

And there she is, in all her glory.

#1496 of 5000. The feet have started to peel away, but beyond that it's in very good condition. It was barely used.

And here it is beside my new Ouroboros.

Hope you enjoyed seeing a bit of Razer history.
