    Hey --

I'm sick of Norton. They suck. Recommendations for anti virus software please.

    Thanks!

    I currently use AVG.
Nice interface, very few ads in the free version.
    Here's the PCMag review.

    I also have Spybot installed.

Avast has been serving me well for years, and I would also suggest getting Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

I used to have Norton, then my computer did a faceplant and the hard drive crashed and corrupted, so i had to redownload everything. Never re-downloaded Norton, If you did not know that antivirus slows your computer over time.
I tried the trail of Avast, and I really liked it. I have the free version right now, But when i get my new computer in June i think i'm going to buy that.
    Also got Malwarebytes downloaded.

Do you just use the free version of Malwarebytes or is it worth it to upgrade?

I just use the free version, it does what you need it for, The upgrade does have a couple better things. I don't think it is worth it.

    Hi,

Get McAfee Total Protection. I get it for $20 at Amazon for a year for all of my PC's, Mac, iPad's and Android Tablets and phones.Unlimited devices. The only thing is McAfee told me to use Ghrome or Internet Explorer as a default browser because they said they are not setup to cover Edge the new browser for Windows 10 yet, That was quite a while ago so maybe they cover that now, I guess I should give them a call and find out because I like the new browser Edge. Did you ever use it ? it has a lot of nice features and it keeps getting better like Windows 10. They are still just baby's with a lot of bugs but Microsoft keeps making them better every day. Good Luck !

I got that too, it has pretty good features, but it does use a lot of resources while running in the background

I'm just using Windows Defender. Does the job, don't download files you don't trust. Never got a virus, but when I have a virus I install Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner. But no problems so far.

Id say no upgrade to premium

I swear by this. Windows Defender is actually a very good anti-virus from what I can tell. I'm just careful with the stuff that I download.

you don't really /need/ one if you now what you're doing and you're being careful when browsing the internet. I only run Windows Defender and Malwarebytes and I've never had an issue with any Viruses (Just the odd malware, not everyone is perfect). It's like my friend says. "An antivirus works by using up all my PC power to simply stop the virus from running at all"

You can control what you do on your PC, but antivirus is important. You don't have to download anything at all, but the connnection is enough. Kapsersky is best, it's blocked in Korea because it was detecting government spying malware. I recomend it, it's the best you can get, it mostly detects everything. Avast is weak, the worst antivirus out there. I am an IT guy and I have some expereicne in this case :)

Last time I've checked, some virus encryptors were struggling with Avira.
But it could have changed already, personally i think it depends on which fits what your looking for the best.

Yep. Windows Defender is also a very light virusscanner compared to all the other virusscanners I've download. That's the main reason I use Windows Defender. I got a lot trouble with other virusscanners. Blocking wrong things, pc running slow, annoying notifications ect.

In general, Norton and McAfee are terrible pieces of garbage in my experience. If there is an issue with your machine, most of the time it is either of those two programs. If you want most accurate and best protection, Kaspersky is the way to go, but you definitely pay for it. Side note is that they are so hard on security that sometimes it does cause games to run slower. If you want to go free, then Window Defender has finally (since windows 7) been considered one of the best out there now. It doesn't require anything new to download and does a good job keeping your machine safe. In general those two are listed the top two best virus protection you can get.

The suggestion of using Malwarebytes' for Anti-Malware is also excellent, they are the top for malware detection and removal so you are good there. In general I would just install Malwarebytes and use Windows Defender.
