I don't get why people think that just because coffee-loving hipsters, screenwriters, and rich kids have MacBook Pros, that they are simplistic or just for looks only.

I've been an Apple guy for years, previously as a creative professional, and currently as an AV Technician. There is just way too much software that is Mac-only, or that doesn't have a PC equivalent (QLab, for one), that I rely on for work every day - beyond what my company provides. Part of what we do is provide computers for presentations: PCs to do Powerpoint, and Macs for video and audio playback. Our TDs also use Macs for all show-planning, CAD (they've all switched to Vectorworks on Mac), and post-production. These guys have done countless hours of testing different platforms and software to come up with the way that we do things.

The Macs they use for shows aren't for gaming, they're for audio/video playback and Keynote (which is way more robust than Powerpoint). Granted, the PCs they use for shows aren't for gaming, either, just for Powerpoint, so they're not the highest-spec'd. Even if they WERE top of the line, they still wouldn't be able to run the software that I need to have on hand to keep a show from going down, unless I installed a Mac OS partition and created a seudo-Hackintosh.

You're right, it is personal preference . . . except for those of us that have to use the best of a certain type of software, and that software is Mac-only. My next laptop is going to be a Blade Pro, so I can finally play some good games at a decent framerate and with graphics quality set higher than "low", but until QLab makes a PC version (not going to happen any time in the near future), I'll HAVE to stick with my MBP, too.
  2. razer of course

My cousin had a Razer Blade 2014, and his took a crap last year so he swears he will never buy another Razer System again. However, what he refuses to accept is that he would play games for an ungodly amount of hours straight. He disputes that with the fact that he treated his old MSI laptop even worse but it lasted him 4 years (but the conditions are hard to compare.) He would hardly ever turn his RB off, and he would game for like 99 hours in 1 day somehow; then alt+tab when hes finally done then close the lid and have a smoke. My cousin is a 20 year old imbecile (no offense 20 year olds, but statistically you're an imbecile lulz.) My point is Razer's aesthetics and marketing attracts a lot of boys in that age group, who don't take care of their stuff yet are hormonal ragers that spend too much time on forums. Hence, all the "Razer hate."

I don't get how you don't get why people think this way... I was actually at a Starbucks earlier today and literally every single person using a laptop had a Macbook lulz. One of them was clearly in high-school, which qualified her as a "rich kid" IMO. Those things are expensive as fuck man, and most of these kids clearly don't need all the professional benefits a Macbook Pro offers. Hence, it's fair to assume they want them because they are simplistic or for the looks/brand.

I'm not trying to bash Macbooks, I'm just saying it's no mystery why a lot of people think this way. I know that Aaron Swartz used a Macbook to code Reddit, and that guy was like my internet hero. With so much popularity you're going to get a lot of haters, e.g. Razer hate-wagons.

Same goes with softwares that are PC Only.
Some would also argue that Adobe Premiere is better than Final Cut ...

Is this the QLab you're referring to? https://figure53.com/qlab/
People here that do that kind of work are using PCs. So I guess there is an equivalent for PC?

I would take the Blade over the Mac any days hahaha =))). Im just not Mac friendly >.< Razer Blade just look really awesome to be pass on. =) Im really digging the Blade Pro but man the pricing on that....

The TDs use Premiere on the Mac for Post-production, so I wouldn't actually argue with you on that. Pre-pro, as well.

Do you know of a PC equivalent? I haven't seen one that can do as much as QLab. Audio fade envelopes, video fades, custom geometry, 64 audio channels, screen blending in the program, 1000 layers of video/audio . . . the list is huge. The closest standalone (because of course a media server could do all of this, but I need it to fit on a laptop that I can take with me everywhere) that I've seen for PC is a church presentation software, ProPresenter. It doesn't do nearly all of what QLab can, though.

If your looking to play games and do work, razor. Although there are other options you could consider (building your own for example to suit your needs)

If you have the budget go for Razer! I have budget so I went with qhd+ 256, to blow MBPro from performance and the Luxus feel, I have FHD one, nice battery and have good viewing angle but I returned it because I missed the touch screen from my old 2015 model and the screen feel like other gaming notebooks which i personally don't like, because I'm getting used to MBPro and RB qhd+ screen.

Wow I couldn't have said it better myself. It's like how people need to have iPhones. Customers at Starbucks need to sport their MacBooks. Students in the design department of the university need to work on MacBook Pros. I think eventually we reach a point where we have drones mindlessly buying products without doing any of their own research or evaluation.

I totally respect people like PTSinger because he actually can justify why he needs a MacBook. People should be able to think for themselves and decide what product is right for them. Buying something because it makes you come off as a cool/rich kid kind of disgusts me.

I guess my point is that by pigeonholing Mac users into this category, it seems to be implying that the non-visible section of us get lumped in there too. To me, people making generalizations are like people looking at icebergs, but not acknowledging the mass of ice UNDER the water making the thing float where people can see it.

Honestly it is not in my line of work, so I can't tell, but I'll ask what (PC) softwares/equipment they are using and let you know. It might end up not doing what you need at all! ;)

I have a Vaio Z clamshell with same 28 watt chip with Iris 550 as the macbook pro 13" with touchbar....so firestrike scores will be in the 1500 range while the gtx 1060 in the RB is the 9000+ range...so comparing is not really adequate for gaming purposes, unless comparing to the 15" Mac. Then again, Geforce now streaming is available...so even with limited graphics it is possible to play games if willing pay and have good internet connection.
