BIOS or EC update for Razer Blade 15" 2018 Base Model?

The support link for the Razer Blade 15" 2018 Advanced Model includes BIOS and EC updates, but the Base Model only has a basic guide up. Are the Advanced Model BIOS and EC updates compatible with the Base Model? I'm interested in installing Linux, and the BIOS update is widely noted as crucial for touchpad support. Base Model BIOS is 1.01.

@greenwapiti Yes, the EC updater for the Advanced Model is compatible with the Base Model. If you send me the serial number of your RB15 via PM, I can use that to give you the latest one to date.

Hi,

I tried to use the ones listed in the advanced model page, did not work, the touchpad is functional. with some issues, I have the 1.01 bios version, it would be cool if you can update the documentation regarding the fix for the base model.

Thank you 🙂

Thanks for bringing that to our attention. Do check your inbox as I have responded to your PM.
I'm also on bios version 1.01 and trying to update but getting the following message "this firmware tool is for use only with blade and compatible system"
I managed to get the BIOS to run, however the laptop is having issues recognizing the HDD and the video drivers. Any advice?

Hi!
How did you manage to run the update? Any luck with the drivers?
i'm on bios 1.04 (version when I bought mine) and I seem to be having issues installing drivers for my razer blade base as well. nvidia control panel and newer nvidia drivers won't install, they constantly give me an error, even though I know that it's supposed to be the correct driver. GeForce experience says that current version 399 is most upto date and refuses to go past that. any ideas that the bios upgrade might help with this? bought it less than a week ago and can't play games because the drivers aren't recognized by anything because nvidi control panel doesn't exist.
Hi, I to want to know where to find Bios updates for my Blade 2018 base model? (And the rest of the software listed for the advanced model?)
I'm using this great machine with Linux and hope to se more support from Razer in the future.
Hello I'm also looking for a BIOS updater for the Razer Blade 15 2018 Base Model. The one for the Advanced Model does not update the base model with the same issues listed above. Can I please get a link for the appropriate updater, I need to put Linux on this machine and can't until it is updated as that fixes the Trackpad issue. Thank you!

Hi H3xidecimal
As you can see right above, I also hope to see some updates. But for your info, I have now run Linux, Debian and Ubuntu on this machine, for over 2 weeks. And it works! I do not have issues with the trackpad. I use it daily as a developer. I'm hoping to see better support for the fan control. (I just turn the light off.)

Oh excellent! Thank you for letting me know! I'll get to tinkering this weekend then while I wait for my new NvME drive to show up. Appreciate the confirmation that it works on the shipped BIOS! Thanks again!

is there any problem with fan control? what about the fan speed?
there is an open management tool published by razer on GitHub for light management.
But anyway, I want to know where can I download the EC and bios update for base model 2018. Ec and bios updates listed in advance model are not supported on the base model, an error message appears when installing.

Has anyone tried installing 2 x 32GB SODIMMS in the Razer 15 2018 Base Model?

The Advance is configurable to 64GB and has same chipset, so in theory this should work.

I’ve just ordered the SODIMMS and the Razer 15 Basic which arrives Sunday, can anyone point me to the Bios updates, I am assuming I’ll need to use the Advance Bios configurations.

I don't think base model could support up to 64GB memory? Maximum 32GB on official site?
