Can i use a low class GPU in my Core X

Hi guys

Just trying to work this out. I have last years Razer 17 pro with a 2070 gpu. I am looking at getting a Core X so i can set everything up on my desk so i just need plug it in. I Will get a 3080 next year, but i am thinking of getting the core x now and a lesser card. Can i still use the gpu in my laptop or will i have to use the gpu that doing in my Core X ?
