Clean Windows Install on Razer Blade Stealth 13" (Late 2019)

Hello,

I've just received my first Razer laptop: a Razer Blade Stealth 13" (Late 2019) in Mercury White. It's a lovely compact and solid feeling laptop.

However, it's only available with a 256 GB SSD, so the first thing I did after checking it all worked, was pop in a 1TB Samsung 960. I then tried to do a clean install using a USB drive with Windows 10 1909 64-bit on it.

However, I can't get Windows setup to run: it says "A media driver your computer needs is missing...".

I wasn't too worried at this point, there's no USB drive in this box, but I was sure I'd find the drivers or a media creation tool on razer.com, but I've not managed to find anything. I'm new to Razer laptops, so apologies if I've missed something obvious.

I then tried:

  • Booting from another USB port
  • Pressing F9 to do a recovery boot, but this just takes me to the BIOS (I imagine it depends on a partition on the SSD I removed)
  • Disabling legacy USB support in the BIOS
  • Resetting the BIOS to optimised defaults
  • Putting the chipset drivers from http://drivers.razersupport.com//index.php?_m=downloads&_a=view&parentcategoryid=927&pcid=908&nav=0,350,908 on a USB stick and installing each of them as part of Windows setup, but none of these do the trick, Windows goes through the process of installing them, but then says "No new device drivers were found..."
  • Searching the Internet for Ice Lake boot drivers

None of these worked.

I then tried booting from an Ubuntu 19.10 USB stick and surprisingly this did work! The system runs in live mode and Ubuntu 19.10 can see the Samsung NVMe drive. I didn't try installing Linux though.

I could image the old drive by buying an NVMe enclosure or reinstalling it into the laptop, but I'd rather be able to do a clean windows install. Can anyone point me at a boot driver or media creation tool I can use?

Thanks in advance,
Flux

Good news. I recreated my USB drive with the Microsoft Windows Media Creation tool and setup now works. Note that there is no trackpad or Wi-Fi until you install drivers, but the Windows setup process itself is fine.

I'd still like to see Razer publish a guide on how to do a clean install.
i tried 3 diferent usbkey to install of window 10 english , french and windws 8 . none of them worked for me
then i booted on linux has you did and managed to copy my drive on lan then swaped nmve and cloned the drive back
