Since the introduction of the Advanced Chroma Configurator for the Razer BlackWidow Chroma gaming keyboard we have seen plenty of awesome & creative custom lighting effects from our fans. So we thought, why not make an official contest?

Here it is – announcing our Razer Chroma Configurator Contest!

We’ll be collecting entries here all the way till February 20, 2015. Our staff will pick out what we think are the best 10 custom Chroma effects and put them to a vote for a week from February 23, with the winner announced on March 2. (EDIT: Apologies for the delay, entries took a while longer to sort out - we will list the winners before the end of the Feb 28 and we will announce the winners by March 6) The creator of the Chroma lighting effect with the most votes stands to win the grand prize of:
    • 1x Razer Orbweaver gaming keypad
    • 1x Razer DeathAdder Chroma gaming mouse
    • 1x Razer Kraken 7.1 Chroma gaming headset
    • 1 x Razer Goliathus Extended Speed gaming mat
    • 1 x Razer Hoodie
    • 1 x Keyboard Enhancement Kit
Creators of the 9 runner-up effects will each win a Razer Kraken 7.1 Chroma gaming headset.

On top of that, all these effects will be displayed and honored on the Razer BlackWidow Chroma product page!

Each user is allowed to submit up to 2 Chroma Effect profiles here. Users may be shortlisted only once. Submission format:
    • Insider name
    • Chroma Effects name
    • File link (must be in *.razerchroma format)
    • IF possible, have a Vine/Youtube/Instagram/FB video or a animated gif to showcase the effect.
This thread is for contest entry submission only, please keep non-entry related comments to a minimum.
For discussions on the contest, head over to the Chroma Configurator Announcement thread.

    Entry #1
Went for a more modest looking effect. Put more emphasis on making the wave effects have a circular flow in different directions while still being synced.

    EDIT: Added 2nd entry.

    Entry #2

My phone camera doesn't do a good job of capturing the colors. The razer chroma profile would be a much better way to see it.

I prefer shiny things that are subtle at first. So, mine is a base white with a shimmer effect to the base keys. " 'w', 'a', 's', 'd', 'r', and 'shift' " are also a shimmering red with a reactive touch that makes the light go out on key-press. Whenever any other key is pressed however, the keyboard begins to show off it's full range of colours. Causing a rainbow to shoot out in horizontal directions within the same row of keys. Then to top it all off with one last thing to catch one's attention during idle times, the keyboard has a white pulse that shoots across it every few seconds.

I'd love to program a specific animation for the 'r' key itself but haven't been able to figure out how yet. I play a lot of FPS games so it's essential that my movement keys don't cause a spammy light show. However, I'd love something special to happen when you reload using the 'r' key. unfortunately I haven't found a way to use the 'on keypress' setting to allow the triggering of a specific pattern to play without it also playing when any of the other keys in the animation are pressed.

It's functional, something I can use no matter what I'm doing without flashiness or distraction. I really don't find it appealing to have a flashing or dramatically colour changing keyboard under my hands at all times, so I opted to go with more subtle effects a mostly static appearance when not in use. Each "Zone" is a different colour, while the top function key row has a red-orange wave effect. Any key pressed regardless of zone turns white briefly and fades back to the orignal colour. The white reactive effect (Without being distracting) is quite pleasing on the eyes if you look at the keyboard as you type. I do it sometimes. Admit it, you do too.
