Hey all I plan on buying a razer blade for my birthday in early July, but was wondering should I wait for a new release. I plan on using the blade for both college and gaming and have been working to earn the money for it. I would be pretty bummed if I bought a blade and then a new one with smaller bezels and better specs is released soon after.

Blade 2017 is pretty new about 3 months old, In early Juli you will probably have UHD option though. And there are no promise that it will be new update in late 2017 or for smaller bezel, there are only public wishes. Just keep your eyes here on Forum, new update, rumors etc will be mostly here first updated. Waiting new technology will naver has the end. Like past update, poeple was waiting for Blade 1060 late 2016, and then 5 month later came Kabylake 1060. Same, if there come let's say max q gpu update, and then maybe come in the next canon lake and so on. Just buy when you have your money the system that could fulfill you needs, and enjoy it;)

It is not a deal to just buy at any time (even as buying the day before a refresh launches) when someone has money to upgrade each year, even when that is far from optimal in terms of economy.

But for someone who has done a great effort in saving cash, and probably wont upgrade in 3-4 years, the minimum he should do is optimize his purchase to maximize the relative performance it will have in the following years. So in the end, ist not about "buy now or you will be waiting forever".

My recommendation is that you wait because the current blade has a GPU that is close to 1 year old.
In addition, too many people are requesting thinner bezels, max-q gpus, better trackpad, better thermals, OLED, among other features. Based on Razer's history, they should release another blade soon. Their history says on average they do it each 6 months.

Yes they did two generations Blade 14 but they have still to release UHD 14 in June or July, don't they? Let's say if they release it on June, I don't think they will release new one on July or August with new form size, GPU update is possible though. In this case we will know it in early July if there any ( @Animeify plan to buy Blade)
I bought Blade 2015 on March 2016 then came update in next two months, but it was only chroma, CPU and lighter body, was not big difference in real GPU performance. I love my old Blade and If i didn't got a good offer to sell it and be able to upgrade to the new Blade 1060 with only about €400, i would still using Blade 15, it still could play latest AAA games in medium to high setting.

I'm willing to wait until august since that's when I have to go back to college. Do you all think the blade uhd will be worth getting or would the fhd be more practical? I do plan on doing a lot of gaming and movie watching since my course load will be lighter next semester.

August is nice time point for seeing tech update, I think Apple, Razer in last years also announced their new systems around this month.
For Video consuming and editing for sure UHD, had QHD+ once, now FHD and missed the touchscreen and the high resolution when watching video especially in higher resolution than HD, still unclear if they use same IZGO display in UHD or new display, if same with old one it will be glossy and you will face a problem under sunlight. For gaming though FHD is better because its GPU can only handle perfectly 1080 AAA games, no windows scaling problems, nice brightness even under sunlight, besides with FHD you will get better battery life and about 100 gr lighter.
