I'm very interested in getting a Blade and Core, but all I see in here is people talking about how the USB ports on their Core doesnt work, and that worries me because I'll need them. Does anyones cores usb ports actually work, or are they all broken until the engineers at Razer find a fix?

I only got my Stealth+Core today, and haven't installed a GPU yet, but my Core's USB ports (used with a mouse and two flash drives, all at once) are working fine so far.

From what ive read online, it seems like the GPU being inside is the main cause. People seem to think that its because there are so much data going through the cable that the usb stuff lags. After you install your GPU can you let me know? :)

    quick update:
so, it worked fine all this afternoon until I installed my GPU (a Zotac GTX 970) after which the mouse (a chroma Diamondback) would start freezing for a couple seconds every now and then, and occasionally it would freeze for extended periods before disconnecting entirely (the lighting turns off and everything). Reconnecting brings it back online but then it just does it again later.
Definitely being caused by the GPU being present.

Aww thats too bad. I'm curious if it happens to every single person, or if there is the occasional working Core or setup or driver or something that someone found that makes it work. Thank you so much for your update :) maybe ill just buy a blade, and wait off on the core until they fix this

I've got the stealth and the Core and 1070 in it
I use 3 of the usb(s) and they all works perfectly, no issues whatsoever

Oh really? Thats awesome to hear! So there are some cores out there that work as intended. Thats good, as i was under the impression that they were all broken.

Mine work, but I would recommend plugging in the least amount of peripherals into your core the prevent any decreased performance through the single TB3 cord that acts as a lifeline for your gaming experience. I just use this to keep everything in check: ( and it seems to serve my needs

Yeah I know I can use a usb hub, but I would prefer to use the usbs on the core since thats what they are for. to be used. and i already have a 10 port usb hub on my other computer, so i dont want to have 2 usb hubs laying around, its already messy enough as it is.

But all your usbs on the core work? with a gpu in it? you've never had them disconnect like people mention?

nope, never had that problem when I used to use my usbs on the core.
(BTW: how do you use up 10 usb ports?)

oh thats good. maybe ill take my chances and get a good core, and just RMA if its bad. I have a lot of USB things haha. usb to ethernet adaptor, 3 external hard drives, a mouse, 2 for a razer keyboard and the passthrough, a usb headset, a usb plug for my phone, a usb plug for my camera, a usb just to charge random things. and i need another external hard drive soon so thats another port gone haha
  12. I think there's a design or power problem with the USB ports on the core. I am now on my second Core: I RMA'd the first because of USB port problems and the replacement has the same issues.

I have a GTX 1080 card installed and have a RBS. One USB device in the core works fine most of the time, but once I have two or more then there are problems: input devices disconnect/reconnect or lose power every few seconds.

Even with one, the power/disconnect issues happen when the device is under load. I plugged in just the keyboard (mouse into the stealth) to the Core, and it was okay... then I went to speedtest and during the upload speed test my keyboard would lose power and disconnect constantly.

When I have both a mouse and a keyboard plugged in then one or the other keeps on dropping out. I just ordered an external USB hub to plug into the RBS directly because the USB ports on the core are unusable. The graphics card works great, though.

I had problems with the USB on mine when I was using the LAN port. When using the laptop's WiFi I never had an issue.

So even when your core is under load and using a GPU, as long as you are using the laptops wifi your USBs work fine? People are seeming to get a lot of mixed results on this problem :slightly_sad:

I have a core, and a stealth (gtx 1070) and I use the usb ports for my mouse, keyboard, and audio, and have yet to experience any issue. Had the core and 1070 since august 2016.

It could be due to the combined power drain from all the devices simply being too much for the core. After thinking about it for a while I remembered that I did have issues with the core disconnecting while under load when I had "high drain" devices such as the Blackwidow Chroma and external HDDs connected, but after getting my hub these problems stopped

Was researching as interested in getting a RBS + Core - on the Core, I'd probably want a keyboard/mouse connected via USB [and also it's gigabit ethernet wired to my switch]

Maybe the issue is not a 'broken' core, but on how it is being used?
    1) the precise chipset of graphics card installed - officially supported list is in the 'GPU support' section at

    2) if using display on RBS or have monitor(s) directly connected to the graphics card in core

    3) software version: prob before/after update to windows, razer software, graphics card driver...

    4) what doing at time e.g. playing a game or anything intensive [high CPU/GPU]?

    5) Which RBS? Pre-sep 2016 RBS [CPU Intel i7-6500U] or the current Intel i7-7500U

    6) anything else my small brain can't think of ;-)

Does Razer Blade have similar issues? As well as hardware differences, the thunderbolt is not used to power the notebook

If can add some of these details [especially 1) & 2)] to your post, then maybe able to spot a pattern :wink_:

This would be very helpful, if we can narrow down the use cases for the USBs not working!

I just purchased the new gen RBS + Core + 1070 superclocked gpu...gpu works great, but the usb is a huge issue. It will detect my mouse and keyboard for a few seconds, then disconnect everything even the core. but when I plugged it directly into my rbs, then it was fine. I also have a headset plugged it but it works fine...wondering what the issue is....anyone find out yet or have talked to a support? its kind of annoying I JUST BOUGHT IT yesterday.

Yeah people have talked to support about it, and razer has said the the engineers are "working on a solution". hopefully they come out with a core V2 or something where everything works perfect
