Does razer blade 17 2021 have xmp support?

I cant seem to find anything related to xmp in the bios.

depends on bios version i guess

on 1.01 i was able to activate xmp in bios
on 1.03 i am no longer able to activate xmp in bios

dont know if it is possible to downgrade the blades bios. theoreticly we should be able to flash the older bios, but dont know where to find it and how to flash it.

so yes, if you got lucky and can grab one with the older 1.01 bios, you are able to use xmp. install the ram and in the bios unter processor RAM option gets unlocked.

with 1.03 this RAM options are no longer gets unlocked after installing for example 3200mhz ram.

on 1.01 i was able to run 3200mhz ram. on 1.03 i cant load xmp anymore and therfore my 32GB 3200mhz ram kit runs 2666 for some reason. It doesnt even get trained for 2900mhz, i have to sell this very fine 32GB ram kit now, since i am with the latest bios no longer able to run it with good speeds, which is a shame...
When do you get your blade? mine is already 1.03 when i got it. So is there any point getting better ram?
Have to deal with 1.03 now aswell. Stock RAM runs 2933 CL22 or something like that, which is not the best speed/timing combination you can get.

I really hope they update bios soon with unlocked XMP option again.

As stated I have a kit 3200 CL16 Kit here, 32GB. Without XMP it runs 2666 CL21 (JEDEC?) which sucks. On 1.01 this kit was doing 3200 CL16 with XMP running fine. This is the kind of RAM speed/timing is was very happy with. Then 1.03 came along.

Got my Pro 17 (3070/QHD) as soon as they where available. Now have to deal with 1.03 aswell…

1.01 to 1.03 is kind of a trade off, we lost XMP but gained 5W GPU power target.

1.01 = GPU 100W, XMP available
1.03 = GPU 105W, XMP unavailable

hope for 1.04 = GPU 105W with XMP available again :)

Considering buying a kit of 32GB 2933 CL17 1.2v, but it is even more expensive then the 32GB 3200 CL16 1.35v kit was, and now I have to sell the 3200 kit first, loosing even more money…
Hello @webmich !

Interesting thread. I did not even think about XMP when looking around for RAM chip upgrades. I suppose I should have a look at my bios version as well. I have the same laptop as yours - Blade Pro 17" 3070-QHD. I got mine pre-ordered back in March. Where did you go to find your RAM chip upgrades? I tried asking support for compatible RAM chip types, but all they told me was "DDR4-2933MHz" with no mention of CL timing or voltage.

I just found my Bios version (search "System Information") - 1.01 with a date of Jan. 5th, 2021.

I found some people with Razers reporting excellent compatibility with these RAM chips, but they are now no longer available - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084929MWL

Kingston has an updated pair of RAM chips here, but I don't know if it will work - https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-FURY-3200MHz-KF432S20IBK2-64-dp-B097QK6M3W

Your thoughts?

This’s really weird, how can they enable xmp on bios and take it off on later update. RAM is important for getting out of max performance from the laptop, hopefully they’ll unlock it on bios level again since I saw users who trying playing around with hardware programmers that might even put RMA risk higher for them.

Hmm... interesting... that's the exact kit I'm looking at for my second attempt.
Have you had a chance to test those? Would you recommend them?

I can confirm that Crucial's Ballistix kit runs at only 2666MHz in the 2021 Blade 15.

As for XMP support coming back, given the categoric tone of "Blades do not support XMP",
in the support emails I had received, I wouldn't hold my breath for such a BIOS update.

Sorry for the late response. For some odd reason the Razer notifications kept hitting my spam folder.

Thats too bad that the Crucial Ballistix kit runs only at 2666MHz.......even though this is 2021......

So a couple of things I have to make note here:
- previously in my 2021 Blade 17 Pro RTX 3070 QHD laptop, the initial 16 GB of RAM (2x 8GB chips) were reported as running at 2933 MHz
- when I took it apart to extract the initial RAM chips I noticed that they said "Forza DDR4 SODIMM 8GB 3200 CL22, NMSO480E82-3200EA00"........and I was thinking to myself that I always thought Forza was the fantastic ultra realistic race car game.........but anyways, I was super surprised to see 3200MHz RAM installed and the system only reports it running at 2933MHz
- afterwards I went for a set of Samsung RAM chips instead - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08FBNQXC4 - as some people reported it working in their systems. And, get this........the way I found out that it would be compatible was that I went to UserBenchmark, looked up my system, and then looked at the kind of RAM chips other people were reportedly using in their systems. The Samsung chips were rated the highest and surprisingly were actually the cheapest at around $185 each. You can see from the link here - https://www.userbenchmark.com/PCBuilder?tab=RAM&searchTerm=rz09-0368 . The ones listed as "Unknown" are from what I understand to be of the "Forza" variety. Anyways, I took the 16 GB Samsung model number and reverse searched it on Google to get info about it from Samsung's website. While there I looked up Samsung's other chips and found the model number for the 32GB version - https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/dram/module/M471A4G43AB1-CWE/ - which I took and input into Amazon to get the first site that I posted up above.
- the RAM arrived within 2 days. It was a super quick install, I even took a few pics of the before and after. After booting it up the system reported that there was indeed 2x 32GB RAM chips installed, totaling 64GB. But.........that it was running at 2933MHz. So maybe thats all that the motherboard can handle. Which is fine with me because I can do pretty much everything now anyways, so its not the biggest deal breaker in the world. If it lets me run 200 tabs in a browser, have discord running, and Twitch Studio, plus play the games that I love while letting me stream it all at the same time for several days on end.........then I'm happy.

Last but not least.......don't be quick to toss out your old RAM chips. A random Amazon search revealed that some people are selling these laptop RAM chip adapters where you can make use of it in a desktop computer! Quite interesting.........
On the Razer Blade 17 store page it says "MEMORY: 16GB DDR4 3200MHz dual-channel memory (slotted)".

Surely they can't advertise their RAM to be running at 3200 if it doesn't actually?

In my new Mid-2021 Razer 17 it was running at 800mhz DDR (1600mhz total), which is crazy low. I've messaged support and they're going to replace it, but it's still very bizarre.

Hey good point!!

It's strange though because when I messaged support about my laptop they told me this:

"The compatible RAM model for your laptop is DDR4-2933MHz. Using another model will cause your system to malfunction. If a component gets damaged at any point of the installation process, the resulting system damage will not be covered by your standard or extended warranty. Additionally, any replacement or non-issued components from Razer (such as the upgraded/replacement storage or memory) is not covered by Razer. Only hardware provided by Razer, is covered by your standard or extended warranty. Any damage caused by installing user-supplied storage or memory units is not covered under the standard or extended warranty."

And after that I was a bit puzzled because my knowledge of RAM chips dictates that if you install a faster RAM chip (like DDR4-3200MHz) into a system that can only support a slower speed (like DDR4-2933MHz), then it won't cause your system to malfunction as it will only run at the speed that the motherboard is capable of supporting.

Maybe I should run something like CPU-ID to see what my motherboard can actually run.......
Did Razer get this sorted out? XMP support is a must for a $2400+ gaming laptop!
Blade 17“ Mid 2021 - No XMP

In Germany on the Razer Blade Pro 17 website it clearly says XMP is supported… !
From what I understand, this is where we are (please someone correct me if I'm wrong on any of this):
-Razers *do* support XMP, but not "officially" (support seems to insist they do not).
-It can be achieved by flashing earlier BIOS 1.01
-The new 2021 Razer 17 advertises 3200mhz RAM, which suggests these new 2021 Razers might be running 3200mhz *without* utilising XMP (given that razer insist they do not support XMP)?
-My Razer 17 had CPU-Z showing a clock speed of 800mhz, but the notebookcheck.com review of the same laptop also had this, and nothing was mentioned in the review - perhaps this is a CPU-Z bug rather than an actual reading. BIOS showed 3200mhz, HWinfo showed 1600mhz. XMP did not appear anywhere in any of the RAM checks I did. BIOS had no mention of XMP whatsoever.
-I'm still very confused. Any users willing to run CPU-Z or HWinfo on their machines and post screenshots would be massively appreciated.

Awesome, thank you! Mine will be here tomorrow and was curious. I already have the RAM kit which will run at 2666 without XMP.

I don't have time to mess around with screenshots, but I did check both CPU-Z and HWinfo.

CPU-Z reported a RAM Frequency of 798.1MHz on the "Memory" tab,
but 1600MHz for each of the two modules on the "SPD" tab.
Interestingly, and -to me- surprisingly, it listed **4** slots (select in drop-down),
with the first two empty and the 3rd and 4th corresponding to the actual memory.
(I wonder if this has something to do with the reported frequency, maybe they
divided by 4 instead of 2...)

HWinfo shows everything as expected 1600MH/3200MHz.

And so does
code:
wmic memorychip get speed
.

I'm inclined to believe that this is a bug in CPU-Z.

All this is on a 15" Blade Adcanced (2021)...
Look what these clowns sent me!!! https://pasteboard.co/szMPLDtJo33m.jpg
They gave me instructions for a MSI motherboard?!?! BTW just a FYI I'm on BIOS version 1.04 and still no XMP profiles:(

Now these idiots are telling me that Razer does not support XMP profiles when they are clearly advertising it in Germany! I am returning it, unacceptable customer service!

I Purchased 64Gb of DDR4 two sticks of https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/dram/module/M471A4G43AB1-CWE/ The memory runs at 3200Mhz with no problems whatsover. Memory arrived in two days and was sat waiting for the Razer 17 for several days.

Recommend people check this memory out if they have a problem elsewhere.

Thanks for the tip.
