[SOLVED. SEE REPLIES FOR SOLUTION/S.]

Hi all

I'm getting error 142 every time I hit 7% during the install of Synapse 3. Synapse stopped working about 3 weeks ago (would crash constantly) so I uninstalled it. Upon attempting to reinstall I began to get this error. I've every C++ package installed that people recommend on other posts but it's still not working. I've also assured the program is not being blocked by my firewall.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you

Bump, not resolved 😞
I have exactly same error, was just about to start a new thread when I noticed this thread in the search. I've sent a support ticket about this to Razer twice (first was over two weeks ago, and then again a week later) including screenshot and install log, but it doesn't look like they're going to respond.

I have Razer Tartarus V2 and keep getting the same message "Installation failed with error code: 142" during install. I've also gone through the same steps as you have, as well as following a clean install guide at "https://support.razer.com/articles/1699349771". Likewise, I had Synapse 3 installed at first, but then had to un-install it because it started acting up; and now can't re-install it.

Judging by multiple threads I'm noticing a pattern of apathy Razer shows towards their customers. Regardless of whether this issue gets fixed or not this is going to be the last Razer product I buy.

I was getting the exact same problem as you with error code 142 with RazerCentral_v7.3.29.148.exe and found a solution. As there is nothing on Google to show how to solve this I'll post my solution.

I spent 3 hours tearing my hair out trying find a solution, tried disabling firewall and anti-virus. Trawled through the Razer logs and focused on "C:\\ProgramData\\Razer\\Installer\\Logs\\RazerInstaller-cb19c464-e8c4-429d-93f5-55093fee4228.log". This section reflected what was appearing on the installer dialog box:
code:

Installation failed with error code: 142

Downloaded the module 15915963443feqC9b6RazerCentral_v7.3.29.148.exe directly from Razer to isolate and test (direct links to all modules are in the log file). Ran the installer for the module and a write error appears for uninstall.dat, "could not create uninstall data file" in the windows installer folder.
This is what is generating the error code 142!

Tried granting folder access to "everyone", no joy. Tried searching for Windows 10 folder access errors for an uninstall data and found this that relates to disabling Windows Defender - Controlled Folder Access (this might be the AV you are using for the solution), but I'm not using Defender I'm using Kaspersky AV and I disabled it. Or so I thought (paused protection does not mean disabled!). You need to go into Kaspersky Settings > Protection > disable "File Anti-virus" and "System Watcher". Now run the main Synapse 3 installer again... result!
Thanks so much for sharing! I really do appreciate you taking the time to share your solution.

This did prompt me to go in and mess with Windows Defender as well a little. I turned off real time protection and was able to get the app to install. Unfortunately now Synapse crashes right after the logo displays . . I can't win lol. I don't plan on getting any more Razer products after this. There's no reason the community should have to do this much investigating themselves!!
Thanks, your solution worked for me. Pretty impressive investigative work. I paused Windows Defender real-time protection and used Razer Central installer; then installed Synapse from within Razer Central. I'm no tech guy, but I would have thought that running the Synapse installer as administrator would have given it the necessary permissions.

I agree, this is pretty disgusting behaviour on Razer's part. I've dealt with some scummy customer support services but never seen anyone just outright ignore support requests - especially considering how much they charge for their peripherals. And their software just makes me mad. I don't think there's any other peripheral manufacturer which requires users to be logged into their online account just to access the functionality of their keyboard/mouse/keypad. The only reason they require you to be online is so Razer can collect real-time data on the user.

So your reply made me go try ONE MORE TIME with real-time protection disabled. I kept it disabled after the application installed and left it disabled until the application completely loaded up and I was able to get past the log in screen. It WORKED.

This is indeed the first of 3 manufacturers I have experience with that require you to log in. Which if you're anything like me you have 300 passwords so it's a pain to log in every time I need to change a darn hot key.

Thank you both for your replies. Hopefully these solutions help someone else.
