As the title says, is Eve Online worth the $8.33 USD a month that it costs? I know that this is significantly less than other games like WOW, and such, but is it actually that cool of a game? How many of you people play it? How many of you used to play it, but quit?
While I'm on the same sort of topic, how about Elder Scrolls Online? I know that they removed the subscription fee, but you still have to buy the game itself. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about it, but mostly from people who were wanting a single player game from a multi-player game, and such. What do you think about ESO?

I haven't played either, though I have setup accounts for both, so I'm basically an expert and here are my opinions. Ok, not really, but here's the scuttlebutt.

One of my brothers has been playing Eve Online for a few years, and he's always quick to point out that you can pay for the game subscription with their in-game currency, so if you don't mind part of your gaming experience to be somewhat work-like... you can definitely play Eve Online for free.

Elder Scrolls Online, you can get the game itself on sale pretty consistently at around the $20 mark. I grabbed it because some of my friends play it, but it's hard to find time for an MMO, so I haven't actually played it yet. I do know that a lot of my friends who play do complain a lot that the game has a lot of "Pay to Win" type of dynamics that hurt the games playability.

How hard of a time does that aforementioned brother have getting the in-game currency to pay? I have something against paying for an online game at all (Mostly the fact that I'm only 18, and the only credit card I have is linked to my parent's account, so they see all the bills).

Most mmorpg are slowly dying out, not sure if you want to invest time in this when people are gradually leaving...You might have fun while it lasts though, who knows

@Mat Cauthon I think he probably plays every day, but he always makes it sound like he can pay for the month with a few hours of grinding. I shot him a text, but I don't think he carries a phone at work. I'll let you know when he answers.

Edit: Here is his response via text...

If I'm translating/parsing that correctly, it seems like as a new player you might need to do between 25-40 hours of grinding to pay for your subscription... but as you get to where he is it only takes between 2-10 hours.

Hmm, pretty large commitment to get done in the first free 14 days...

Well, I'm thinking of trying it... maybe I'll try to find someone to share the account with. The problem is in finding someone who won't accidentally trash my ship...

I think it'd take far too long to do that... I think I'll just wait until I have the money...

@Mat Cauthon According to their website, they now give you a 30 day trial instead of 14 days. Maybe the trial website still says 14, but it's actually 30 now?

Hmm, interesting. I'm still not sure, it does seem odd that such a big group would take so long to update their website, but that is an interesting thought. Thank you for mentioning that. http://www.eveonline.com/. On this website, it still says that it has a 14 day trial.
