  1. Hi, I am referring to this thread https://insider.razerzone.com/index.php?threads/resolved-change-fn-key-function-help.3860/, as it was closed, but, in my opinion, the issue WASN'T resolved.

If you configure for instance the F5 key as media key (previous track) then you can press F5, and it switches to the previous track. That is correct so far. BUT, if i now want to actually press the F5 key, i assumed to press FN+F5, but that again only switches to the previous track.... so not exactly a desirable behaviour.

What would be cool too is pressing F4 forALT+F4 and pressing FN+F4 for F4.

    Can anyone help? Please?

Sorry for the English, I'm not native and lazy right now.

    Thanks in advance.

*edit: I just realised, that the thread im referring to is very old, so maybe it worked then.. but it doesn't now and I can't really find anything on the web on it.

  2. I saw that post too when I was searching for the similar information. It should not have been closed, as it didn't seem to answer the question.

The only thing that I can figure out would be to change the profile using the Fn+0..9 to a profile that you have set up to use to function keys one way, and then change it back. If you need to make the change regularly, I can see where that would become an issue.

Another thing I've been trying to figure out is how I could change the function of any key with the Fn modifier. For example, opening the Calc app by pressing Fn+C or something.

    Good luck!

I too saw that thread and wish that it had not been closed. The part of the question that I wanted to know about was the rebinding of the function key itself. Will Razer software let you map the FN key to a different key so I can use it in games?

As far as I know, the Fn key on ANY keyboard only alters those F-keys. I've tried to do shortcuts with other keyboards before, and they don't let you use the Fn key with anything else.

The functionality that you are talking about, @petergriffin78, is available on my Mac. I push F6 to play or pause a track, and then Fn+F6 to show my desktop.

Not sure about Windows, though. I don't spend a lot of time there, except to play Overwatch. Not NEARLY enough time spent there.

  5. I didn't buy ANY keyboard, I bought a Razer gaming keyboard with an awesome function button that I hoped to use as a modifier key for any key on the keyboard.

I've also seen keyboards where the Ins, Del, Home, End, PgUp, and PgDn buttons had alternate uses when modified by an Fn button.

In Windows I can change the action of F6, but I can't change the action of Fn+F6 (this must be hard coded somewhere).

It would really be nice if we could use the Fn key as a modifier just like ALT, CTRL, and SHIFT.

Sorry, forgot about those. Those are basic functions with the Fn key. They're not actually alternate functions. You can press Fn+ the arrow keys to do PgUp, PgDn, Home, and End on keyboards that don't have those buttons. Fn+ Retun = Enter, and Fn+ BS = Delete.

As far as the first part of that response, the Fn key will still only work as a modifier key for those keys that the operating system will allow it to, no matter what the brand.

Not sure about that, I've read 2 reviews of the steelseries M500 keyboards that claim you can remap every key on the keyboard. This is pretty important to me so I decided to try for the APEX m800. I really had my eye on the Ornata....

  8. Hey guys, thanks for the replies.
My lenovo notebook does this, thats where i got the idea. And my last keyboard had dedicated media buttons, so i asked in the amazon review section if it was possible, but it seems that people there got me wrong...
It's just inconvenient to lower the volume with FN+F2, you need two hands.. or very long fingers, which i don't have.
Too bad its not possible to do that...
@Robert A Moreno II FN as a modifier for other keys would be really great, i agree with you... I really love the keys on my new razer keyboard, so i won't return it. I put volume up and down on the macro keys for now.. If it is possible from the hardware side, they really should consider to update the software to enable it. At least to put the FN key on every other key on the keyboard.
