Fresh Windows Install on Razer Blade Stealth (2017)

Hi there, I just ordered a Razer Blade Stealth (2017) and am very excited to start working with it. I have purchased a 1TB NVME drive to replace the stock 256gb one with. I am aware that this may void my warranty.

What I want to know is - Is there any reason not to install a fresh version of Windows (from Microsoft) on this drive? Windows 10 is pretty good at finding drivers automatically, and the Razer website has drivers available. I know several people have posted drive-cloning tutorials, but I would rather just install windows normally and skip all those cloning steps.

Has anyone performed a clean install of Windows 10 on a Razer Blade stealth? Did you have any issues?

Thanks,
Ryan

I know that folks have gone ahead and done it without too many issues. My question is why? Are you upgrading the SSD? Razer is pretty good at not loading bloatware on their systems.

Yeah, upgrading to a faster 1TB SSD, since 256 is pretty unusable. I'm simply looking to avoid cloning the old one.
Go ahead, and land to Razer page for drivers and utilities, you're good to go

I bought the Stealth, what a nice machine. Somewhat of a fingerprint magnet but nowhere near as much as my past XPS 15 was.

Immediately swapped the 256gb SSD out for a 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIADGE8TX3960 which works like a charm.

I went on to install a fresh copy of Windows and everything worked great. I didn't even need to get drivers from the Razer site - Windows was able to find them all automatically. My Razer Core X with a Radeon RX 580 works great, too.
Congrats man. Curiousity: do you notice on your machine the animation in windows is not very smooth? I use a Mac, a desktop Win and a stealth 7500U Kaby lake and I notice animation kinda sucks even compare to the win desktop (which is a beast). I doubt it's the driver for HD620 at first, updated and still. Now I think the 4k panel maybe the problem.
So what's your experience like on a freshly installed machine?
Nope, haven't noticed any animation frameskips or lag, really. The HD 620 has exceeded my expectations of a iGPU, it's keeping up with more Autodesk Maya & Unity3d work than I thought it should. It even plays Fossil Hunters at a good framerate if I tweak settings a bit. I know the 7500U is a lot slower than the 8550U but it should be fine for regular Windows stuff.

Maybe have a look at your battery + power option settings? Could be that your profile is underclocking too aggressively.

This is what I have:

And it's plugged in but still. I dont find it very smooth for the Windows panel expanding/collpasing for example, comparing to my desktop.... Maybe the 4k pannel really that heavy.
Instead of Balanced try Best Performance. Windows is annoying in that there are like 3 levels of power options. If you can get into the oldest power options (https://www.laptopmag.com/images/wp/purch-api/incontent/2010/07/poweroptions04.jpg) then you can set the power settings of the iGPU, which is likely the culprit here.

What kind of animation? I’ve 7500U stealth and 4K external lg monitor. Though never use only Blade stealth with it always paired with corev2 and rtx2080 for gaming sometimes, but I can test without it if you want, but don’t tell me for gaming lol. Use stealth mostly for paperwork, watching video, surfing on the go, sometimes 720p Overwatch, CSGo etc light games that doesn’t need really gpu performance.
Should be fine to install a fresh copy, i did it with my 2019 Stealth when I upgraded the ssd and had no issues.

it's the glitches of windows animation not gaming lol. Like expand/collpase the windows, taskboard view.... things moved, but not smooth. I ended tweaked for performance and turn off all animation

Well, I always fresh install my laptop when i bought a new one as it contains a lot of bloatwares. The easiest way to remove it is by fresh installing. You don't need to worry about license as W10 license is binded to your motherboard and it automatically activates once you connect your laptop to the internet. However, please do download W10 iso from official microsoft site. Next, install drivers that suits your model from Razer site to prevent unwanted bugs and glitches. Hope it helps!
