he will probably be okay to run any game on 1080p for the year with 1 gtx 980. I wouldnt splash out on 2 980's straight away coz price will drop by them time the 2nd card is needed to run games at max, Got a sli capable motherboard lemon spider ?. You made some good points about video output in your other post tho. If dp 1.2 only allows for max of 60fps at 4k its not really the best future proof investment. Maybe they will be able to bridge this gap with software when 144hz 4k comes. Like using 2 display ports to power 1 monitor. Idk tho time will tell :)

I don't think I plan on getting the 980 after the helpful feedback in this post. Probably gonna stay with my 750 ti for another year, and see whats available then. :)

One thing to keep in mind about waiting for prices to drop. I made the mistake of waiting for the 780Ti to drop when the 900 series came out to do triple SLI. To my surprise the 780Ti was discontinued because it still very slightly out performed the 980. This was also the case with 740, 760, 770 and 780, and probably another few I'm forgetting. Looking at their history the same thing happened with the 690 and some other 600 series cards. While I do suspect the 1080 or whatever they call it to be a big jump after the small one the 980 made, don't expect the price to change, or to wait till that card comes out and get the 980 cheaper as it may no longer be produced. Just something to keep in mind ;)

I have found you a future proof-ish graphics card :) its the BFG geforce titan XXX, you must buy it. How does 24gb of vram @ 8.6ghz sound ?. and apparently has support for display port 2.4 and can get well in excess of 60fps @ 4k at ultra in any game :D. who knows tho it could be a Aprils fools joke but its listed here on ocuk .and here's and article on overclock3D if any1 is intrested

    Its totally a joke but funny :). Display port 1.2 already does 4K @ 60FPS. 1.3 will do 4K @144Hz and 8K at 60Fps.

Sell house, sell kidney and other organs, sell your soul to devil and then buy the card. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
