Hello everyone who's reading this, I just wanted to share my horror VR experience with you.
WARNING: The following contains Silent Hill spoilers. If you haven't played this horror saga yet, I highly suggest you to play it before reading my feedback. Enjoy!
I recently got my hands on a VR headset, it was perfect for almost everything, almost. I got very excited to play horror on it, and had chosen the Silent Hill series for it. And... Spoiler: it was OK (being sarcastic) the PT was almost good, with the baby thing lying in the sink (all the points I gave it were 'cause of that XD) The jumpscares made the screen/lens drop down from QHD to FHD, and I still didn't figure out why. When I was running from Pyramid Head, I had to adjust the headset, or else it would be blurry, and while I was doing that, I missed some scares. sad face emoji. In the final part, when I got my insides out (pun) by that maniac girl, my resolution was hopping every 2 secs from 1440p to 720p to 600p to 1080p. When I got to the human grinder, I hoped things would get better but I got an email, put the headset on my forehead while reading it from my phone, and it thought I was still looking at it, and missed the gore. sad face emoji again. And finally, when the head-to-mouth woman-dog thing swallowed me, I dropped down to 3fps... There was a few jumpscares that worked out, but it wasn't too creepy. And I'm not the kind of guy who sleeps when playing Sophie's Curse, 'cause when I played Until Dawn, the cops confiscated my PS4 for screaming too much, so, if you want to test it out for yourself, go for it, but, you've been warned.

Thats a shame to read. What headset were you using? I think unfortunately its going to come down to who manufactures most of all. I have heard nothing but positive reviews about horror VR and am super excited about it. They are actually talking that they are having to scale DOWN the level of scare intensity because of the way VR tricks your brain it is affecting people on a much deeper level than you are when say you're watching a scary movie or even playing a scary game where you have the ability to turn away from the fright at any time, whether you choose to or not.

So I got a question on the oculus in general, are you also able to play normal games or do they have to be speciffically made for Vr?

So you could for example play battlefield and use the oculus like a monitor?

Yes, but Vive-dedicated games are, like, less buggy and better frames

Oh ok..., because I'm really interested in vr, however I'm not fully convinced by it's games, I'd rather play normal games but with a vr device, however I think there will be a lot of complications, especially with indi games

I mean, they are okay. If you play non-Vive games, you can occasionally drop at 20 frames for 3 secs. It happens once/twice in an hour

hello. I came across your post and wanted to clarify a few things when it comes to VR. First, explain how you played all the old silent hill game on the oculus rift please?? VorpX? or.... The reason i ask is because those game were not built for VR and will not play right in VR if at all. If you have an DK2 you would have been able to play a bunch of really scary demos/experiences that were around in 2015.
I design games for VR and i can tell everyone that scary games in VR are 100% more scary than on a TV or monitor, IF THEY ARE MADE FOR VR. otherwise the stereoscopic 3D is missing or fake and you probably won't get a 75-90 fps which is required for VR. Plus head tracking probably won't work and that is the main part of VR!

And even VorpX does not do VR justice! I have it and don't even use it. Everyone needs to remember that consumer VR is only a few months old, its takes up to 4 years for AAA games to be made!!! Vive has only been around for a year! GIVE IT TIME

I don't like horror games in general. I simply don't know why I would be scared and nervous while gaming. I can see why people get a rush but I'm not into that.

Same here. I don't like getting scared at all, especially if it's psychological horror. I really like roller coasters though.

Roller coasters are amazing. And I don't actually mind horror as long as it doesn't include jump scares. RIP FNAF.

Urghh, basically any horror is bad for me - I did finish FNAF though, because I learnt how to beat the game pretty confidently. TBH after you know the pattern it gets easy, and a little boring. The later FNAFs I didn't touch however. :slightly_sad:

Listen for them to come, flash your light, win.

If I put my earphones up enough to hear them come, I would probably die of a heartattack when they jumpscare me :slightly_sad:

The jump scares suck, I once got jumped and had NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO idea it was coming. Never been so scared in my entire life. I choked on my next breath, and jumped back.

My chest hurt after that and I didn't want to be alone in the house anymore.

This was in FNAF. And I hate it as well. Stupid videos saying "Fall Sleep in 40 seconds" and its a jump scare.
