Hello Everyone. I am planning on buying a keyboard and I think it will be one of the blackwidow series or the huntsman series. I would like to hear any thoughts on which is better and what you guys prefer. I would like something that is sleek and simplistic that would work well for a long time. Preferably mechanical. Thanks for replies in advance

What is your budget? You have many different priced keyboards here.
The Huntsman is said to be the longest lasting switch wise, and it has a pretty good build from what I have heard too. The Blackwidow Chroma V2 is more of the bestselling keyboard, and as far as I know it has a pretty good reputation for not giving out on its own. The Blackwidow TE is just the Blackwidow V2 but in a smaller footprint without macro keys and the numpad. Blackwidow X is older, and unless you like the look of it I would stay away from it.

The Huntsman does have the new Purple switch, so it has a different feel from the regular Green switch but I hear they did a pretty good job on still making it feel good. It also lasts longer apparently, but it is hard to say if that is true since it is new.

I have enough to cover anything up to £200 which is the cost of huntsman elite so no problems there. I haven't owned a mechanical keyboard before so feel is something I can get used to

Having had both the Blackwidow Chroma V2 and now the Huntsman Elite, i do prefer the feel and sound of the purple switches on the Huntsman v the switches on the BlackWidow. To me they feel better, but i would say if there is a store locally that may have both of the keyboards on display, use them for a few minutes to compare. What is a better keyswitch is always a subjective thing. What feels great to me, you may hate.

I have owned the Blackwidow X but not the v2 and have just gotten the Huntsman today. Something that I have immediately noticed is the switches are far lighter than the Blackwidow Switches. However, they are still very loud, and on top of that there is no hope of dampening them with O rings like the Blackwidow did due to the shape of the switch that the O ring will rest on. I enjoy the wrist rest that they have provided, but find that the keyboard is a little high when it is off. If you switch the angle of the keyboard a lot you will have problems because the keyboard feet tend to flip shut when you move the board forward and the wrist rest does tend to fall off when doing so. If you don't move the board as much as I do, though, you shouldn't experience this issue. Something about the switch is that it feels like your average cherry blue on the way down, but it feels like a cherry red switch on the way up. What I mean by this is that you feel the press down (much crisper btw), but there is no feeling of reset on the way back. Lasty, there are a few software issues that I have had with this. The most significant of which is playing Overwatch at the moment. I do trust this will be fixed, but when playing my entire top row, f1-f12 and the media keys all do not work. It should be noted that I have assigned all f1-f12 with different functions than the default, but it does not explain why it has worked fine with the blackwidow. Hope this helps a tad, feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks for he replies everyone. I haven't owned a mechanical keyboard before so I will get used to whatever I get. The main question I have is 'is it worth spending £100 more on the huntsman elite over black widow chroma v2?' I can get black widow for $169 Canada (=£90 or so) or get huntsman elite for £200 in UK so after Canadian tax it will be about £100 difference

That's your decision there. The main advantage that the Blackwidow Vs has over the Huntsman is that it has Macro keys on the side. The main advantage of the Huntsman elite is that you get media keys. If the media keys matter much to you, then I suggest get the Huntsman. If you think you're fine with assigning media functions to the macro keys, then I suggest you get that. If you have the budget for the huntsman and want it just that much more, then it's entirely worth it to put the extra $100. In my case, since I'm a lefty, I have no use for the macros on the left side of the V2, so I just went with the Huntsman. Personally, it's not the only reason, but the media keys for me is one of the main reasons that I went for the huntsman over the V2.

Your doubling the price for the purple switches, RGB wrist rest, and media keys. If that is worth it to you by all means go for it. If you went with the Blackwidow what switches would you be leaning towards? Do you already have other Razer peripherals?

I decided to go with black widow chroma v2 due to the passthrough of both USB and 3.5mm. It is heavy so won't slide around and the chroma looks really good. Thanks everyone for the help
