I Am Absolutely Finished with Razer Laptops, Serious Users Should Stick With A Different Brand

I was a longtime Dell laptop user for 15 years, then decided to switch to Razer a couple years ago. I bought a Razer 15 Advanced (with the RTX 3070), and from day one it never worked well. Out of the gate, I had to RMA it, which took over a month. Mind you, Dell has incredible support options, but Razer does not. The support reps I talked to were largely clueless as well. A month later, I finally get my laptop back, and in the ensuing 2 years it still crashes all the time, even with a fresh copy of Windows on it. And the Razer software? Even worse. It constantly updates on its own, and even if I force quit it, it pops right back up trying to update itself without my permission, and causes the machine to hang. Why does it resurrect itself even after I've force quit it? And now, it won't even get through the recovery process, it hangs halfway through it, and the only way out of that was to force shutdown, and now of course the machine won't even boot, and there is no option to start the recovery process again. Using a USB drive, it hangs about 10 minutes into the installation.

So now, I basically have a $4000 bricked machine after only 2 years of use, and of course it is out of warranty support. I guess my only option is to buy a new Razer laptop? I've never had these kinds of problems with Dell, so I am now leaving Razer to go back to a more stable machine, and with much, MUCH better support options.

A complete waste of money, with horrible support. And the Razer software is an absolute joke as it just starts whenever it feels like, and updates itself without warning with no way to cancel it. I do like Razer peripherals, but will never, ever purchase another Razer laptop ever again. By far the worst experience I've ever had, especially as a power user who depends on computers to make a living. Now that Dell has serious offerings at A) a better price point and 😎 with better support, I would recommend sticking with them. With lots of Razer peripherals of course :-)

Razer, if you're listening, how can I get my $4000 machine working again? It's absolutely insane that I barely even got 2 years of use out of it, and that you guys sent me a machine that barely worked after the RMA process. I'm pretty pissed about the money I've wasted, as well as all the downtime.

Would You Buy Another Razer Laptop?

I just bought my 3rd razer laptop, one of the new 15" advanced 3080 with 240mhz QHD screen, my bad, it threw a windows error the first power on, requiring a recovery install to fix. It then ran perfectly well... for a few hours .. then blue screened (I suspect it cooked itself, was piping hot) and only would reboot to the BIOS screen where it could no longer find a NVME drive...

Glorious! $3309 USD for a 5lb paperweight! I then had the fun experience in dealing with "customer support" which turns out to be a call center in india where good intentioned, but uninformed workers are blessed with resolving low grade tech issues... anything worse and you MUST use their email system to get further support. No option for a phone number to call for a live voice, and no direct email address, you must use their internal messaging service. 'Customer Support' is nothing more than a weak minor tech support with the real purpose of insulating the company from dealing with customers with more serious issues directly..... USELESS!... I then was passed form person to person, eventually RMA'ing my dead unit so a replacement could be sent... I expressed concern about availability, but was told by "Chad" not to worry, a unit would be allocated .... fast forward 4 days and now "VIP Support" informs me there are no units and there is NO ETA for replacement... they will refund me in 3-5 days....

POS company, hiding behind a Indian call center to avoid customers, lying to customers and delaying resolution.. be warned... Razer is notorious for horrid customer service... and it has not improved.... only gotten worse....
So far, the support has been just ok, but having the battery swell twice on a $3300 laptop is unacceptable. I'm glad I got the Razer Care, but the battery situation isn't the last of my issues. When sending back my laptop a couple of weeks ago I specifically mentioned that I had upgraded parts installed. 64GB Ram and a 2TB NVME. For the sake of time the rep said I could leave it in, and they would make a note. The other reps told me I would not get the parts back. I had a couple back and forths even after sending the screenshot of the message. The last rep said they would have the parts shipped back.

I received my replacement today with no additional parts. To make matters worse my laptop is now bricked after attempting to update the firmware. I like to keep everything up to date. This isn't my first time flashing a BIOS, but it is the first time I have had one fail on me. This experience was such a downer 😞
why laptops tho desktops more upgradeable
