Insider: A support forum now

Would a seperate section for support threads bring back the old Insider we all loved?

    When ever I look for recent threads/new threads all I can find are support threads and threads asking about new Razer products which they want. The old, fun to be in Insider is dying. Rarely I see an interesting thread, this used to be a place where we gamers used to hangout, have a nice chat, relax and have fun. That fun place, I feel, is now dying and is becoming a support forum where almost all threads are support threads which either gets redirected to Razer Support or end up being unresolved(Example: Synapse not opening issue). I can say that I have reduced activity here because I used to come here to chill with some good gamer friends I made here but now coming here only adds more stress by trying to troubleshoot all the time. I want that old Insider back where we had fun chats with some great people like mommy(@kajira ), @Destrok , @SinLucifer @Mapsle and many more.
    I have added a poll so that if we can get enough votes to satisfy the admins here we may have a shot at getting this Support Section opened up hence cleaning up the forum and making it alive again, just like how it used to be few months back.

    It does seem more of a support forum these days that's true =(

    Maybe it would be good to stick @kajira s topic with guide to Insider as a first step to reduce the number of unnecessary topics?

    Yeah, I have noticed this too. I really only started posting a few months back, but it was easy to find something I wanted to chime in on. Now it's pretty much just directing people to contact customer support, which I would think anyone would know to do anyway, but I guess not.

    Frankly, it's turning into the Razer subreddit...
    A great post was made there a while back about this issue but it hasn't changed...

    I think a Support category with tight regulations could be made.
    Rules such as:
    Rants about Razer products will be viewed and dealt with as spam.
    Razer|Insider will not, can not, and does not provide any means of official support.
    In virtually all cases, the issue will be better resolved by contacting Razer Support.
    Any violations of these rules will result in a severe penalty.

    Some other rules that I have seen in other forums could be helpful:
    You must become a Member to create a thread. (Of course this can be abused, but a number of likes could be implemented)

    Other than that, I'm sure Razer|Insider will get a boost in the near future...

    The idea of a fan forum was great, I think it's now a bit bugger than expected at the start.
    Personally I think it's great when people ask questions and other members can answer them, takes load of the support to deal with silly enquiries however, some topics created recently...I cant blame @NazgulStig for almost blowing up. Everyone has a bit (at least a bit!) of common sense and should be able to use the search function or read what's in front of their eyes before raising any questions (!).

    Looking at Insider now - it's a fan to fan support forum which is fine as long as questions are not ridiculously stupid.
    It would be nice to just have a chat about something else than unit manuals =)

    Before you joined Insider things were lot different, if you sort the threads in 'General' and 'Off topic' categories based on the creation time you will notice that the discussions were nice, fun and gaming related. I have no issues in helping people troubleshoot or buy stuffs, I am more than happy to do that and have been doing it for years in Tom's Hardware. These help threads are what gives the community a purpose but what I am saying is that these help threads are the only ones that I see nowadays. That makes this a support forum which it is not supposed to be. Insider started off as a community for gamers to unite and have fun while helping each other out and I want it back to that old state where there were interesting and fun threads while having some help threads.

    I think the easy solution to this issue would be to have a specific forum section that is only to deal with Member Guided Tech Support and to not have that channel update to recent threads. There are so many times that someone has gone through an issue and another member can easily tell someone else how to resolve it without them needing to go through the entire support ticket process. If Razer is less focused on dealing with small issues that knowledgable Members can help solve then they will have more time to work on new projects and releasing old ones that we all want back really bad. (Razer Nabu's) Again this just needs to be built into Inside better so that instead of all the recent threads being support issues, it will be back to what it was like when Insider first started.

    I totally get it but do you have any propositions as to how to get it to how it was before?
    I cant see any topics that are interesting enough to engage in a conversation (except this one solely because I like this forum and would love it to be a nice place to chat), is it because people post only support questions or because people don't want to talk about anything else?

    Definitely people want to talk about other things here, I want to and I am pretty sure majority here would like to have interesting conversations here.
    New people who get here clog up the forum with redundant threads because they are too lazy to use the search.
    I liked what @Zoidbee said about having a separate section to deal with support threads and tweaking the 'recent threads' page to show other threads with an option to view support threads. This will help reduce the redundancy as all support threads will be together and can be handled more easily and at the same time clean up the forum.
    This should help keep the interesting gaming related threads on top.

    Maybe there should be more mods and a mod forum, there's not a lot of 'well known members' maybe you should have a bit more 'power' with that status =)
    But that's of course something that you would have to want to do.

    That will only make people spam their way to top just like what is happening with those Insider deals/offers or whatever they are called, it happened with Nabu and Nabu X also.

    I'm not saying that well known status should automatically grant you moderator status but it might be an idea that people with that status could apply/be selected to help on forum.

    There could be a special voting to move specific active and well known members to a higher rank that is selected either by Razer or the other well known and active members.

    It only got worse after they integrated the discounts for people with a lot of posting. Maybe there is a better way to give loyal members a discount without having an impact in forum quality.

    I think more mods would be a good thing. Maybe Razer staff could select some well-known members for it. People from whom you know they have positive thing to bring.

    There was a discussion regarding this in that announcement thread, some formulas were created to assess the member contribution and value. I think Razer should look in to that.

    It will never happen, Razer will only have their employees as mods here.
    Actually a clean up and proper sorting would do the trick. Every minute a new duplicate thread is created and I try my best to redirect people and reporting these threads to be merged with other threads but that is not a long term solution. Keeping the support threads in a separate section will reduce this issue of normal threads getting covered up by 100s of new threads.

    League? Smite? Those games are not EVE. Just play EVE. Virtual internet spaceships are very serious business.

    Would it be possible to have the support threads consolidated like @NazgulStig said and have them not show up on the main page? so basically have them someplace where if you want to help you go there and if you don't want to be helpful you are never bothered and never need to see the threads asking for help

    yeah way too serious for me :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: and Naz and I have played league before but I don't see him on often which is what my post was really aimed at.

    I believe most of the member here do not experienced the old Insider we had. TBH, I have reduced activity here too due to the same reason. Last time I checked Insider once an hour, now I checked Insider twice a day. Threads are mostly boring and same question asking again and again.

    BTW, I do not see @Mapsle lately. Did he leave us already?
