Installation failed with error code: 1 / Doesn't support Windows that's installed

So I've been trying to install Razer Cortex for a bit now and I've download some versions of Net Frameworks to make the installer run. So it runs now but the problem is once it almost finished, it says that it doesn't support the Windows installed on my PC. When I press ok, the installer shows the error code:1.

I'm trying to install it on a Windows 7 x64 os. Razer said it supports Windows 7.

How do I fix this?

I can only help Insiders by the facts of his/her current system and the information they share.

The reason why error codes occur, is because it can be related to the following factors (there could be more)

  • Windows OS source files are damaged due to virus or malware
  • The exe file has not been approved by Microsoft
  • Windows OS with latest update disable installing old / outdated exe files
  • Windows OS have not been updated and newer exe file will not run on it

RAZER is an internationally well known company, 2nd factor is neglected. But you have a Windows 7, which cannot get new Windows updates. The reason Windows need the latest updates, is so that it does not cause conflicts with the latest third party (Microsoft / Windows approved) software and the other way around vice versa.

My short and best answer is, upgrade to Windows 10 and update with latest Windows updates.

Microsoft have stopped providing Windows 7 updates (WSUS) months ago. All public WSUS Windows 7 services is now unavailable. The reason why these updates are crucial is because of the following reasons (there could be more)

  • Improve Windows Security
  • Defence against unknown, malicious, outdated third party exe files
  • Allowing permission to run / install latest third party (Microsoft / Windows approved) exe files
  • Improve Windows user interface
  • Repair some Windows faults

Even though RAZER web confirms the RAZER software is compatible with Windows 7, if Windows 7 does not have the latest updates it can face conflicts with RAZER's newer exe version. Which I am thinking that is what you are facing. RAZER's newest exe prevents you from installation, because of your outdated OS version.

Thank you for supporting my post @Michelle-RazerCortex

I do believe this is a Windows OS issue than a RAZER Cortex issue.
If it was a RAZER exe file installation issue, then all Windows users could be facing problems.
