Kraken Tournament Edition really poor audio quality

Hey everyone. I just bought a Kraken TE and I had high hopes for it. When I put them on and downloaded synapse 3, it sounded like a $15 generic headset and playing games and listening to music sounds so bad. It’s really muffled and the range isn’t good at all. I’m wondering is this just how it is or am I missing a driver or something? I’ve turned on THX and also turned on surround sound in synapse but nothing works. Any info would be great, thanks.

I know it sounds obvious, but double check that the inline volume control is up all the way.

Without the DAC I also wasn't impressed with the sound, and honestly, with the DAC it's not amazing in my experience either. I'm content with my purchase, but I'm not running around telling anyone to buy this headset.

If anyone found settings that really produced some real sound, let us know.

The hyper X is the clone of the Takstar Pro 80 with improved Beyerdynamic Tesla drivers. Take something that is already good and polish and make the unknowing gamer go WOW when there are better out there. Its good for the price, there are way better headphones than HyperX. I think HyperX is the only good one.

You are preaching the the choir mate. I own a Philips SHP9500 for everyday use. The reason I said HyperX makes good gaming headset is because of all the "gaming" companies out there they seemed to realize that headphones should be made with a proper audio company and just slap on some branding to them so that children buy them. Kind of what they are doing with Audeze too but they just went too expensive imo.

Been looking into getting proper planars like the HE4xx from massdrop but been hearing bad build quality reviews so held off on that. Might just go with the Jubilees or the HD6XX because its Sennheiser and they got a 2 year warranty for starts.

Edit: The HyperX Cloud 1 was my first true gaming headset and it eventually got me into proper audio so I still hold it in a high regard, also it was the only gaming headset in the world so far that had a relatively neutral experience comparing with overly bass heavy stuff from Razer or Astro.

At the end, gaming headset is crap. Good gaming headphone has to start being good headphone. Not some pile of RGB crap and stupid colourful gimmick.

100% agreed. I was just comparing gaming headsets, some people buy gaming headsets cause they dont want an extra mic cable running along their headphones and I understand that logic since I was one of them but I wont argue that audiophile headphones absolutely destroy gaming headsets no matter how expensive the gaming headsets get.

If the really one headset, get Senheisser GameOne (expensive af) or at least hyperxcloud (real headphone clone). Hyperxcloud cannot even compete with Superlux 668 which is fully considered as basic entry level.

The Superlux is very uncomfortable with stock pads but I dont some velour ones when I used to own it. I discarded my pair because it was getting old and had some dust particles inside the drivers. Didnt want to give it a thorough clean cause they were so cheap but yeah as entry level those are nice too. I like the HyperX as a closed back pair cause they were cheap, around $70 when I bought mine and their sound was tolerable in comparison to something like a SHP9500. GameOne is expensive, I wouldnt spend more than $100 on a gaming headset. For proper headphones I can do that but gaming headphones will surely disappoint at that price point.

Thats why dont get gaming headset, please f those. Sorry the SHP9500 is better, hyper x means you like lots of bass. There loads of sound signature out there in market. Hyper X is fine and it gets the job done well. But if you want good mic and sound quality get better ones.

Hmmm im not sure why but my HyperX Cloud has absolutely no bass with the velour earpads. Even my SHP9500 has more bass than that. I think you are comparing the Cloud Alpha cause they ended up tuning it to be bassy.

I want to try out Sennheiser so bad but I keep going back on them cause I already have like 3 pairs and just have no place to put another one on my desk.

Well am sorry for you because the Senheisser one is that good. If you cant afford, I understand. But just know this, once you try, you will not go back to your hyperx cloud. If you go 660s for basslite and god of footsteps, you will dismantle your hyperx. You will wonder what the f I have been doing with my life. Look nicer and sound better. Unless you bass is a must for you then oh well !

Hmmm its not a matter of affording. I have expensive headphones like my HE4XX but I use that for music listening only. I wanted to invest into a good headphone for gaming like the HD58X or the HD6XX but right now I have 3 headphones and even if I get a Sennheiser I just wont have time to use any of my other pairs then. I will pick up the HD6XX, you can mod those close to the 660s but for right now I use the HyperX as a travel/closed back headset, I use the HE4XX for at home music listening and for gaming the SHP9500 is good enough for a decent sound stage and imaging.

Im not rich but I like to either spend on mice and mice mods or on headphones. I dont remember if I saved the post or not but the it had something to do with removing the foam inside the earcup so that the drivers are visible. I would suggest searching on reddit for the exact method. Since I didnt end up getting the HD6XX I didnt pay close attention to that thread. Hope you find it.

I understand headphones. Makes no sense on spending on mice and mice mods. I think its a gaming culture thing. Do you have the link somewhat ? I think you mean 598 Jubilee.

I will try to find it. I saved it in the reddit app once. I think it was the 6XX since the headphones themselves were blueish rather than gray for the Jubilee.

Mice mods are really interesting too, you should look at r/MouseReview. People drill holes to make their mice lighter, or even use a Logitech G305 PCB to make any mouse wireless. People out there making Zowie FK1 wireless etc.
