Lagging/Slow/No Laptop Response

The F keys don't work anymore after I closed the lid (sleep) and reopen it without turning it off. Microsoft word flickers, and the response time is extremely slow like when the mouse moves over a video and the option bar at the bottom appears but very delayed.

I just want to know what is causing this and how I could maybe fix it. Most issues tend to go away when I restart my laptop but not for long. I have programs such as Autodesk Inventor installed that may slow down the laptop but it's been installed since the start (less than a year) and has never caused an issue until now. If anyone has any suggestions that do not include restoring my laptop back to factory settings I'd be very happy.
