MSI GS43VR + Razer Core + Strix 1080

  1. Ok so I just got my Core and put a 1080 in it. After getting all my drivers up to date and installing the GPU switcher everything is functioning "properly"

Once I launch a game I get these strange artifacts in the game itself but nothing on the monitor. They're like small colorful flickers that appear and disappear.

I installed the Strix GPU tweak app and saw that my GPU is running at 100% of its frequency even when no game is being played! Is this normal?

Tried the drivers from nVidia and the ones from Asus and the problem still persists.

One thing to note is that I hooked up all the power supply pins to the Strix ( the 8 and the 6) not sure if this affects anything.

Please tell me I don't have to return it as I paid a lot of money to get it shipped to me outside the US and it will cost even more to ship back.

One of the problems you may have with it is that the Razer Core was meant to work the Razer Blade laptops, And not any other MSI laptops. Also, If you look Here, You can see that the Strix 1080 was not under the GPU Support section. Also, The STRIX seems to be about 1cm longer then the base 1080.

Contact Razer Support, And see if they can help you out. You also will need to pay for shipping to get it fixed if it is something wrong with the core. Might just be a compatibility problem.
  3. Thank you Jenjar for your reply.

I heard a lot of people running it smoothly with other laptops that's why I got it.

It fit fine within the enclosure. And the benchmarks show good performance. I don't know why I'm getting artifacts.

Hi Ned5021, were you able to resolve this issue?
  5. Yep, the GPU needed to be RMA'ed, unfortunately. When I got it replaced with a new one all the issues were gone.

That's really nice to hear. This is the only thread I could find reporting GS43VR + EGPU at first hand. Can you please share a printscreen of Details of TB3. Basically you will right click on the TB3 icon in the system tray, and than settings and details. Many thanks!
  7. could you share some infos about fps in gaming sessions or benchmarks?
