So I've got some cheap membrane keyboards so I can play some games without using my laptop keyboard, but they just aren't cutting it. I want to get something that looks cool on my desk with a tactile click sound when I press on the keys. So I have been looking at either the Ornata chroma or the BW TE Chroma, mainly because of their price. I love the sound of the Ornata, but the BW is mechanical, and I can't choose between the two. Which one should I get?

Well, if sound is going to be an issue get the Ornata. I have razer green switches and I didn't do any research before I got my keyboard. Now, don't get me wrong I love the green switches personally, but my wife wants to wring my neck when she tries to go to sleep. They are that loud. Knowing what I know now, I would have gone with the orange or yellow switch, but that's my bad for not researching. And even then, I'm still pretty sure that the yellow and orange switches are louder then the mecha membrane switch.

Alright. My family may get quite annoyed if I chose the loud switches, but I still love that noise it makes. If the Ornata makes that sound but isn't loud to the point of which it annoys others around me, it would be a win-win for everybody. (Plus its cheaper lol) Thank you!

Oh, Man my wife is the same way when i bought my first blackwidow ultimate. Had to go and buy the stealth edition to get out of that one.

The Ornata is loud. My wife said she'd probably kill me if we shared offices but it's all tolerance based. I love it.

That said, I was perusing through the razer store and I saw a keyboard kit that razer sells that includes razer O-Rings. This further reduces the noise because you've already eliminated the "click" but have now dampened the "thunk" of bottoming out (think car shocks heavy hard bump where you can tell you extended your shock vs. a soft bump that is silent for the most part. If you got the silent switches AND put the O-rings on it it might be an amazing deal!

I'm saving up my zSilver for a blackwidow v2 so I can test that out! to have precision mechanical in a SILENT setup would be uber ideal! but I do love my Ornata!

True, you can definitely hear the click on the ornata, but comparing it to the razer green switch they are whisper quiet to me at least. I have the razer green switches, and when I went to the store to try the ornata switches I was blown away by how much quieter they were in comparison. And I do have O-rings installed on my razer green switches and the Ornata is waaaayy quieter, to me at least.

It's a hard choice :) I love Ornata click sound more than BW. But... on BlackWidow you have more choice (Green, Orange mechanical keys). You can also easilly mod BlackWidow by replacing keycaps or putting some o-rings to quieten it.

That is definitely true. I have the max keyboard translucent keycaps on my board that replaced the stock keycaps that came with it and if you thought that keyboard was bright before you should seem them now with the custom keycaps. The difference is like night and day. I'm chroma obsessed and these new keycaps have definitely fed into my obsession!
