Disappointed. Just... not enough changes.
Granted 970m and 16gb of ram is great, but no SD card reader, still limited storage options, no miniDisplay port...
It could have been better. Ah well.
Yes it is out and without much talking and marketing maybe because there is nothing new to it, but what is great is that they showed they are listening to us and changed what was obvious and didn't require much engineering, it is clear they gave up on waiting for the powerful i7 broadwell. Well Who doesn't own a Blade yet go for it, it is amazing and they "corrected" what we asked for, who own one hold on to it because I think next years model will hold many great surprises for us!!!
I suspect this is a stopgap until the new CPUs and Windows 10 arrives. I won't be surprised if they have a second upgrade before the end of the year. I won't be the least bit upset about that if it happens either
17" would be nice size for the blade & Chroma back-lit
I feel as a laptop gamer , its necessaryt o play in a good resolution and a good and large screen.
Next time when razer announces laptops, they must look into producing 17 inch gaming laptops too please!
We need raazer blade 17 inch please!
Blade 14 with GTX 970M is finally coming!!
the spec says storage contains one M.2 SSD (128/256/512G).
does anyone know if there's a second M.2 slot for upgrade? If yes, is it capable of building RAID 0?
I don't understand why people keep blaming the 14" when there IS the new Blade Pro 17" giant laptop!
Personally, I'm still in doubt if I should move to it with my monitor and a very good laptop cooler or to keep a desktop system with working laptop...
Personally, I prefer the one laptop solution. Keeping files in sync between two systems is just too much of a headache. Where's that bookmark..? oh it's on the desktop. Where did those photos go..? oh, they're still on my laptop. The exception is if the desktop is actually a server. Then I can get to it anywhere if I have internet.
I'm going to go out on a limb and call it before anyone knows for sure:
It's the same laptop as the 2014 blade with a new GPU, more RAM, slightly different CPU. That's it. Windows 10 isn't here, Skylake is late, good 4K screens are not ready yet. All the stuff that will make the new blade a big upgrade isn't ready yet. That plus NVidia is probably ramping down production of Kepler stuff like the 870m forces Razer to update their hardware in the interim.
So you get what we have here. A refreshed Blade with minor changes. They bumped the RAM because that was easy. They changed the GPU because they had to. They hear the cries for 1080 so they are working to offer that in a few weeks. The big redesign/upgrade will come later, maybe this year. It all depends on when the component parts are available.
Could we maybe up the price a bit? If I'm going to throw my money away I at least want to know you charge more of a premium than Alienware.
It already exists. It's called the Razer Blade Pro.
This is funny.
Just this past Saturday my dad came to visit, saw my Blade and the following conversation happened:
Dad.- "When is the new one coming out?"
Me.- "They're usually released in March/May."
Dad.- "Are you thinking of upgrading?"
Me.- "I don't know... I'll wait and see."
Dad.- "Let me know, I might buy this one from you. I like it."
Yesterday I wake up, and see the new Blade (2015). But... I don't know. I don't feel there's much change. Although I understand the advantages of the 970M in both some performance and energy efficiency (heat), I would like to see a DisplayPort.
I think my dad will have to wait a little longer.
Alas, predictions come true! I would predict that next blade will be released at CES 2016.
I agree, i would have loved if razer took out the hdmi port and added in a display port for obvious reasons but the part that makes it stupid is why they decided to keep hdmi 1.4 instead of putting in hdmi 2 when that is out now! That would have been better than nothing, i really hope razer decides next gen to do body upgrades because SD card, display port as well as usb c are NEEDED. The reason i say this is razer has increased there price again, the competition is now where i live like 500 dollars cheaper. While the blade is better quality i will not buy another blade if they don't add more ports, continue to stay the best and lower the price. I think 100-200 dollars more than the competition would be fair but no more than that. I don't understand why this blade has gone up 200 dollars in price when they only gave 8GB more ram because other companies already had that amount of ram in 2200 dollar laptops. As well SSD's have come down so much in price along with the graphics cards and displays. What i am trying to say is it should have been a bit cheaper than the last generation and the same price at most.
2,200 is a bit overpriced, 2,000 makes more sense
Also, I'm currently owing a 2013 14'' version. Can anyone tell me how much upgrades does the new version have over mine? How much better is GTX 970 over 765? 16 RAM instead of 8 RAM? 4720 vs 4702?
Yay they put the price back to what last gen was, although it should be less.
You probably live in a different country than me which explains the price difference, here the price of the blade is put back down to 2699 so i don't think they will drop the price that much. In my opinion the price where i live should be around 2200-2300
