I am seriously considering purchasing the new Razer Blade(not the stealth) and the razer core to run HTC Vive. Does anyone have any experience with this? I need it work, but I haven't found any resources that speak to its efficacy.

Any advvice would greatly be appreciated.

My rift will be here Tuesday. The BEST I can offer you is that according to 3dmark minimum "smooth" playback in VR requires a score of 9271. I ran my Razer Blade STEALTH + core/1080 combo this morning just to see how it did, and it scored a 9385.

So if the Blade STEALTH can qualify with it's 15w two core 4 thread 6500u, logical scaling suggests you should be well in the clear.

Excellent. Thank you for your response. I have been unsure b/c there are few actual shared VR experiences online. I simply need it for school (not gaming) where we will use it for creating VR landscapes with Maya.

Incidentally, I am somewhat concerned that the Razer will soon be antiquated due to the release of the 1080m. Well, I can't predict the future.

I have heard that there is a frameRate issue b/c the thunderbolt can handle 60 fps when 90 is needed? I might have my facts wrong though.

FWIWon the stealth + core + 1080 I can run Overwatch on Epic maxed out @ 4k and not drop lower than 69 FPS absolute minimum dip. Usually runs 75-81. As the resolution of the Vive/Rift is 2160 x 1080 I can't see how it'd run less than 90FPS, but until I actually have one in hand I won't be able to confirm. I CAN say that there's no frame rate limitation on TB3. There's a lot of talk about "not able to handle PCI-E 16x speeds, but most if not all single GPUs will never saturate PCI-E 4x, let alone 16.

As for the GTX 970m becoming antiquated, that's gonna happen whether it's a 970m, 1080m, or GTX 1180, 1280. . . . The core allows you to sidestep that by adding and replacing external GPUs as necessary. When you're out and about gaming on the 4k screen via discrete graphics, you're still going to have to balance settings and resolutions accordingly, but that's par for the course.

Duly noted regarding the updating of cards and the core allowing your to remain relevant. I will now buy the blade, but both are sold out. ugh... I'll have to wait.

Thanks for all of the responses and hope to hear how your setup works with the stealth!
