Peripherals connected to USB-C Hub disconnect when lid is closed

I have the Blade 14" (2016) RZ09-01652 and occasionally have it connected to a self-powered Anker USB-C hub. It generally seems to work really well. I have a monitor plugged in to HDMI as well as a dell wired keyboard and a logitech wireless mouse receiver.

Problem:
I get video out through the USB-C port, and the keyboard and mouse work fine when the laptop lid is OPEN. However, when the laptop lid is CLOSED, after a few seconds the keyboard and mouse disconnect (and I get the Windows chime telling this). I never lose video out when this happens. The only way to reconnect is to unplug the hub, open the lid of the laptop, and reconnect the hub.

I have:

  • Set power management to "Do Nothing" when the lid is closed.
  • For all USB controllers, unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
  • Disabled, then uninstalled Razer Synapse.
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled USB drivers.

This behavior does not happen if I just plug all peripherals directly into the pc. I have also experienced the SAME problem with one other self-powered USB-C hub from HP (my work dock).

I have no problems with the Anker hub on my work laptop (HP), so I doubt it is a defective hub.

I am not sure what other settings could be causing the USB-C port to partially stop reading inputs only when the laptop lid is closed. Remember, it keeps passing video and audio, I never lose those. Has anyone seen similar behavior, and do you have workaround suggestions?

Workaround:
Right now the only thing I can do is just leave the laptop lid cracked open whenever I am connected to the hub at my desk.

Did you already try to update the Thunderbolt driver? If not yet, you can check here. If that didn't help, PM me the serial number so I can validate its model and check for other workarounds to help you address the issue. I will lock this thread to curb our conversation privately.
