My son has taken over my gaming machine. Now I need something new, but I need your help with the purchase advice.
What should I take? I have a Blade Stealth, it would make sense to get a Razer Core X with an Nvidia RTX 2080, wouldn't it? Which Core X anyway? Core V2, or Core X Chroma?
Or a desktop PC after all? I need everything new here? Case, board, CPU, RAM, graphics card, monitor etc.
What do I want to play? Currently still CoD MW, Battlefield 5 and RDR 2, but next year I would like to play the new Battlefield, CoD or whatever.
Now I need you, what should I do? What makes sense and what not? Thank you.

I’m using Core V2 with rtx2080 since the gpu release, with stealth 2016 (dual cores) and current quad core. I believe yours is 8th gen quad core, so the bottleneck would be less. BFV was unplayable on dual core, on Quad core 10th it’s flawless due integrated TB3 controller on 8th gen (had for two weeks mx150 4K model) I didn’t test that game but on open world like Shadow of the tomb raider, return of Jedi it was better than dual core one, less bottleneck. I play btw on 1440p, prefer quality than performance.
For core selection v2 and x chroma basically same only size and PSU difference, also it has physical power button unlike v2, but not a deal breaker to me. Unless you’re using triple slot gpu (big one), Core v2 PSU is enough for 2080.
Of course desktop would give you better gaming experience on such titles since gpu is slotted directly to pcie, no TB3 bandwidth penalties. Mid tiers rtx 2060 or 2070 (normal/super) are also worth to consider for price for performance on TB3 egpu setting. I was aiming 4K no high FPS, in this term I need high end card, I tried also 2080ti but performance for price isn’t worth it from FPS that I got with 2080.

Unfortunately I don’t have stealth 8565U which its TB3 controller isn’t integrated on cpu unlike icelake 1065g7 that make data transfer smoother, means less laggy. But I’ve Blade 15 that has similar TB3 controller design, goes through pch controller before to CPU similar with 8565U Coffeelake architecture, though more powerful due higher TDP. If you want me to check tell me which resolution I should go with, BFV @1080p quite sure it’s easily surpassed 70fps but not sure about stability since the was playing at 1440p rtx on aiming 60fps+, RDR2 I can also test, that one quite difficult on 1440p 70fps should lower the default setting to performance, cod it’ll take time since I’ve to download first on blade 15.
So if you could do that would be great. Would certainly be helpful to others who visit the thread.

I don’t have 144Hz anymore 4K g sync 60Hz, however still can disable vsync and check the higher refresh rate. I play not on highest, usually high since TB3 setting isn’t great on highest. I’ll be back with results hope tonight.

Yes Core v2 is older version from both. It’s literally Core x chroma minio_O I wish I was Ming chi Kuo or Jon Prosser for Razer:big_grin_:

It’s works fine, no on egpu setting your mx150 would be off, since on gaming there’s no multi gpu working.
RDR2 is most demanding title on 1080p you can’t even hit 50fps on default balance setting I tried lowering to 720p and performance mode still barely hit mid 55, however it feels stable and way better smoother than PS4 experience damn I was hoping cross save file for the story.
RDR 2 balanced (default setting)
1080p (1~83, Av 41fps)
1440p (13~87, Average 37)
Thank you @Joikansai for your efforts. 40 fps is very little, considering that it is the current Core X model with an RTX 2080. It's a bit like buying a Porsche 911 but with a normal VW Beatle engine. I think a desktop computer will make more sense. How much you like it?

RDR2 benchmark is a bit heavier than real gaming play, I took screenshot in the town, the worst scenarios in some scenes I saw 60+ but RDR2 is I think one of the most demanding titles right now. I don’t play too much on PC since I most end the story on PS4, but I saw some 2080ti users had also low FPS problems due cpu, so if you’re aiming 70ish on this one desktop with proper hardware is your choice imo.
I like the setting and use it since my Blade 14 2017 and stealth 2016 setting, I’m anti desktop setting because of my work and I don’t really have room and time for building it, really need portability. So minimizing setting is my needs. I like the concept of egpu which allowing your ultrabook to change in to more powerful laptop, with icelake integrated TB3 controller on stealth late 2019 I feel that it goes to right direction, it’s a lot better than TB3 controller on previous cpu gen like on Blade 15 (even current one 10750, still using cometlake with TB3 controller), so on Blade 15 with dgpu actually there won’t be much performance gain (4K resolution with high end gpu is another story) compared its already powerful dgpu but on stealth it’s.
Exactly, I like the idea of simply adding the Core X and then playing current games with the RTX 2080 on more than 100 FPS. But I don't think that will work.
Optional here would be the Blade 17" with the RTX 2070 Q Max. But then it would cost 2800 Euro. Ok, if I now build a PC together, I need a monitor etc. and would probably come to the same price.

Egpu setting will require you an external monitor it’s to prevent data looping to internal monitor that reduce bandwidth resulting lower performance (FPS), I play also on external, for fun I use stealth monitor though on my old 2016 stealth since it had 1440p monitor, but performance on external would be noticeable better especially if you use high refresh rate monitor on shooting titles, I was playing Vampyr and some AC origins on internal which was fine under 60fps. Egpu setting is bad if you’re aiming high FPS like 100 but for some light titles it’s fine like overwatch, Fifa etc.
With Blade Pro 2070maxq you can get despite RDR2 100fps including BFV since on 1070maxq high setting I can easily get 70fps. The 2070maxq on Pro unlike Blade 15 using higher tdp 100 watt or maybe more to put it on 2080maxq class. But for €2800 since it’s almost a year I think you can get a better deal.

Monitor depends on users imo, but the important one is that you output the gpu from the enclosure directly to it. I like open world more than shooting so I prefer high resolution, I had dual monitor setting, 1440p 165Hz Predator and LG4K 60Hz, since I’ve Blade 15 with internal 144Hz I minimized the setting and sold the predator. From the titles and your aiming FPS 1440p 144Hz Monitor is sweet spot. For the gpu I have icelake cpu on stealth and 6 cores on blade 15 so high end 2080 would fit my need, if I have only stealth I wouldn’t go with 2080, maybe 1070ti at that time because if I went with 1070ti or even 2070 I won’t see any performance gain over my Blade 15 1070maxq that is already powerful enough.

It's a great thing but too much losses. Hence the desktop version. I will post more about it here in the Battlestation Forum.

So, I've decided. It became a desktop. Got myself an I7 10700, an RTX 2080, 32GB Ram, etc. With the gaming notebook, or the Core X I was not happy. I borrowed a Core X for 2 weeks with a RTX 2070. It's a great thing but too much losses. Hence the desktop version. I will post more about it here in the Battlestation Forum.
Of course if you’re comparing performance for bucks and you’ve place for that desktop is the choice no doubt. Egpu setting is for someone who want single system, saving room, but not for performance hunger user. I’ve not much room only a single tiny desk, two Blade and a Razer core saving a lot in those terms.
That's right. I don't have much space either but I finally want to play on the PC again. Sure, if I was a Lol or WoW Gamer now, that would be enough for me. But I also like multiplayer shooters and that was the best solution. Now I just need more raser equipment. Because maybe someone next to me might buy my Blade Stealth 13?
