So my vespula is worn. I noticed they released a v2. deciding to scoop that up i realized my kb is about toast too. (deathstalker ultimate). Plus they stopped bothering with the switchblade ui years ago.

I was leaning towards the ornata since it seems like a half way point and im very used to and actually prefer the short travel of the chiclet/membrane keys on the deathstalker. (maybe thats cause i know no different though).

It also has a wrist rest that matches the new vespula's much more than the black widow v2's does imo.

That being said, the usb passthrough is pretty coveted to me atm, and im not a fan of the ornata missing the macro keys. On the flip side, not a fan of the blackwidow having all the shift/symbols not lit up. (ugh talk about an oversight for the price).
Anyhow, im getting waaaay off topic. If i were to buy the blackwidow, which switches are going to resemble the feel and stroke length of the chiclet/membranes on the deathstalker?

I'm a very avid mmorpg gamer fwiw.

    thanks guys!

No real blackwidow type switches will resemble something like the deathstalker and since they are high keycaps too, that does not help at all. If I were to say it would be the Orange or Yellow switches, they are not loud like the greens, and the yellows have a shorter actuation point then the others from what I know (You never had a mechanical keyboard before it seems so an actuation point in general would be new besides the full press down).

The switch from a deathstalker to a ornata is easy, not really that big of a difference and it does not have that much of a learning curve too it (Used a Deathstalker for 3-4 years and then went to the Ornata last year). I never used a keyboard with a USB pass trough or macro keys, so I don't really know how much that would change stuff around.

Also, the apperent reason why the Blackwidow's don't have the secondary function lit up is because of the placement of the secondary function logos on the keycaps and how tall the keys are, I don't think the light will shine all that good.

I changed a normal microsoft keyboard (Those black keyboards) to a blackwidow chroma. You have to type like...1 week? And there you go, like if you have always been writing with that.
Ok, it'ts not as beautiful as it sounds, but I don't think it will be weird. As long as you accept the sound of the mechanical keyboard. That's what I think it's the difference, because you can get used to the feel but not to the sound.

If I were you, I would go to the Ornata, since the keys could be more familiar to you. Also, isn't so expensive (I have seen an offer which costs around 70€ instead of 100 or 110€).
Nevertheless, if you end up choosing the Blackwidow, I'm with Jenjar, go orange or yellow switches.

    Hope it helps.

(Sorry if my English sucked a little, I'm from Spain)

ok, so still a bit torn between the two, but something that can help me decide....

I use a razer tiamat headset. At current, it is plugged into the back of my mobo. (4 wires?)

I dont have speakers so the headset is all i use.

Is there a way i could potentially accomodate the tiamat and still use the audio passthrough jack on the keyboard or would that feature be a bust in my situation?

thanks again for all the replies guys!

I have a jack in my Blackwidow Chroma V2, if that's what you mean. I don't use it, neither the USB port. It's on the right side, so I think it's not comfortable as I'm right handed.
Don't know if the ornata has the jack, I think it doesn't. And if it has the jack, maybe won't be the same audio quality, right? I don't really an idea about that, sorry.

so i went with the black widow and orange switches. i likely wont be able to use the audio jack due to my config (unless i can dig up a way) but the usb will get use. The deathstalker uses up 2 ports, the blackwidow will as well but the passthrough will allow me to reclaim it basically. giving me one easy access one. A perk for sure :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Plus i figure its a good time to try mechanical might as well go all in. Hope its good for mmorpgs, i dont do much fps'ing but im a mmo junkie and do plenty of typing. Was getting tired of being indecisive but i think i made the right choice.

thanks for all the input folks
