Razer Arctech Pro Phone case review: Does it worth to buy?

****I made a video for Razer Arctech Pro product review, click and check it out~!****

Black Friday sales just passed, and I purchased the brand new Razer Artech Pro for Razer Phone 2 and would like to share it with you all!

Razer's mobile phone has only limited options on the protection case, either Carbon Fiber Case for HK$396 or Razer Word Case for HK$196, made by soft-touch silicone. But they both set at a high price. Recently, they launched a new phone case which is Artech Pro. Initially, they only made this for iPhone X & 11 users. Lucky, Razer Phone still on the option eventually.

The price is not cheap though, it sells for HK$396 original price. At the Black Friday sale, Razer made a bunch of products in concessional price including the Archtech Pro. Moreover, I earn enough Razer silver to enjoy HK$160 redeem while online purchases. The Phone case eventually cost me only HK$136.

During the peak season, the delivery time only takes 3 days to my apartment. The case itself is not heavy but it is too thick in my opinion. Compare with the iPhone version, it lacks Razer's identity except for the green trim at the rim of the camera, whereas the iPhone case has either Razer's logo or the word "RAZER" at the bottom. Besides the design, the case material is oil proof, which avoids finger oil or dirt stick on the back. If you have to use Razer Phone to play games, you will notice that the heat is actually concentrated at the middle top of the phone instead of the bottom side. It is weird that the design is not focused on the source of heat.

However, during some game test, the phone does not feel as hot as the Razer Word Case does. Perhaps the Thermaphene layer does dilute the heat effectively. Need to mention that the Razer Phone itself is made by metal, the characteristic of it is that it absorbs and dilute heat quickly. And while the CPU heaving heavily loads in long time, the phone will remain a noticeable hot. But if you put on the Razer Word Case, the heat will trap by the villus inside the phone case, and silicone is not a thermal conductor. Therefore, lots of people will complain about the overheating issue of the Razer phone.

Luckily I bought that in half of the price, otherwise it would to too expensive for just a fancy phone case. But anyway, since there are not much options to fit the phone, if you haven't get the phone case I would suggest to buy this. If you already have the Word Case or Carbon Fiber Case and still in good condition, wait for another price cut event. The current price not really worthy. I just sold my Word Case to others in order to purchase this. So, what do you guys think? Leave a comment below if you have any questions!

I jumped on the black friday (or Black Week?) deal for the RP2 and Arctech for $345 (after taxes, etc) and was surprised myself.
I mean, I already knew what to expect with the RP2, but the arctech was surprising. Besides 2 days to get to Vegas from China, it's lighter and sturdier than I thought it would be. Only downside is that the case makes the RP2 a tiny bit too wide to fit in my qi charger mount I nabbed for my car 😞 and I mean a tiny bit... Like less than 2mm too wide. Maybe I'll take the charger to a heat gun?

Also, plus that should be mentioned.... compared to my RP1 (and various cases I have tried on that) The USB-C opening on the Arctech is big enough to handle all the USB-C cables I have. On almost every RP1 case I have tried, I have had to cut the opening a bit.

At $50, there is no way I'd buy this case. At $25 I usually wouldn't buy a case unless I got to see it in hand 1st. This was a risk that paid off for me.
Thanks for the comprehensive review. I'll pass and leave the phone naked. With all the quality issues experienced by others and myself included (stuck sim card tray on day 2), I'll probably use it for a few months only (like what I did with RP1 which I encountered several quality issues and had exchanged 2 phones till I gave up). I love the phone design, speakers and screen but it's a shame Razer can't get the quality right. Anyway, RP2 was dirt cheap on Cyber Monday so I bought it to have another go but it's as disappointing as before. And I believe the quality issues are precisely why the phone department got axed or downsize. I would like to see a RP3 someday but until they can get their shit together, I don't believe it'll happen. And that's also part of the reasons I bought the RP2. It could well be the last and this boxy design (Xperia ditch it) would be lost. I want to own a piece of history.

@godashram Yeah, the main disadvantage is that it looks like a down jacket. Razer Phone used to have the slim design. But it looks so thick after the protection case

@Pinkshot Well, the best advice is that be very careful when holding your Razer Phone, It is so slippy and vulnerable without phone case

Additional for Both Arctech Pro and Razer Word Case

Both with Arctech Pro (So thick!)

The phone is already thick and brick like. Putting the case on just confirmed it's a brick. On the bright side, it can be used as a weapon for self protection. Lol.

@Pinkshot: Were you ever able to resolve the issue with the stuck sim tray? I have the the same issue.

Still waiting for a decision from them. They asked me to proceed with an RMA without providing any solution on getting my sim and SD card back. I had to ask them explicitly how can I get them back. Can you imagine? And now they say their team is looking into that. They say will reply again when they find a way. It's another waiting.

I'll take a sturdy thick phone over a fragile thin phone any day. 😛
