Hi All, thought I would post up some info for anyone that is also thinking about how to cool the laptop better.

I have tried Liquid metal, which took many attempts to get right and get the desired drop in temp. Howerver after 3 months I noticed the fans were ramping up again, I took it apart and discovered that the Liquid metal had dried up/been absorbed into the heat sink. After many hours sanding and polishing the heat sink and getting off all the corrosion I repasted with NH1 Noctura, this was fine but a little hotter than the Liquid metal.

I then had the idea of using copper shims on the dies. This has been the best option!

I have used a 2mm Shim on the GPU and 1mm shim on the CPU with some Kryonaught paste either side, I polished the heatsink to a mirror finish with Autosil .

Full load benching I never goes over 78 degrees and the fans are way lower than stock.

I would not recommend Liquid metal at all.

Hello! I'm not sure I undertand, you changed the pads with cooper shims and putted kryonaut paste on the CPU/GPU right? If not, correct me pls I'm interested in your method. I personally was thinking of putting kryonaut on CPU/GPU on both side then use fujipoly extreme 17W/mk pads to replace all the other pads. It should be kind of the best cooling you can have without using liquid metal which is not only dangerous for risk of leaking but also the vapor chamber from what I am told is in part aluminium part cooper, so over time it does damage it, also it requires more maintenance more often.

Hi there, no I left the pads alone. On top of the CPU and GPU I have used copper shims, either side of the shins have a good amount of kryonaught paste. This works best I have found. Liquid metal was good at first but dried up as you can see from the pics. I did not take pictures of the shims, I suppose I can rip it apart again and take some snaps.

There’s already a lot experiments with LM on Blade 15 vapor chamber nothing great, not worth the effort imo. In fact still not touching cpu and gpu on over a year Blade 15 1070, i don’t see the need but once i do that I’ll use ic diamond instead kryonaut. To be more correctly it’s it’s copper nickel mix.
In my experience it really needs this mod, the fan noise stock is just too loud and the temps too high. I now have a quiet laptop even when gaming. Works for me, I am putting shims on my Xiaomi Notebook Pro and Thinkpad X220 this week.

No, don't worry dont take apart your laptop for that,it's to much work for nothing I will look it up on reddit or youtube to see.

It's definitly worth it to tweak the paste for me aswell(also pads) for fan noise mostly and reducing a bit the temps for longevity of the hardware.

I have seen some youtube videos and reddit posts on LM on blade 15 and some do get impresive result, some results like 5-10°C cooler than kryonaut. I am just not sure about the aluminium vapor chamber, I have seen images of damaged chambers on some laptops and alot of people need to replace the LM every 6-12 months because it dries up or losses heat dissipation for some reason, also I commute to my university everyday on motorcycle, so my laptop is getting lots of shaking and moving around so i'm afraid of liquid metal leaking, better to be safe than sorry
