Razer Blade 15 Advanced 2021 QHD 240 Hz 60 Hz Problem

Hello Razer Community!

Since last week I am partly the happy owner of a new Razer blade Advanced model with an RTX 3080 and a 240 Hz screen.

Absolutely I am reasonably satisfied, but I come across some problems.

Out of the box I could only select a 60 Hz mode.

There is no choice either via razer synapse or via windows display settings.

A shame so far.

But there is the option of selecting “Nvidia GPU Only” via the Nvidia control panel and selecting 240 Hz under “change resolution”.

However, I do not think that this cumbersome way is the right one.

What is the biggest downer, however, is that even if I have selected the 240 Hz via the control panel, I still select an external 100 Hz monitor then both are throttled to 60 Hz again.

That's twice a shame because 90% of the time I work on an external monitor.

So the only way to enjoy the 240 is to use the Nvidia control panel to select the GPU only option. However, this only works in laptop mode without an external monitor.

Is this a known problem? I have to say that this is a bit of a disappointment.

Even my home office notebook from work can handle its internal 300 Hz and an external Monitor with 100 Hz. And there is no 3080 but a 2060 installed.

I would be happy to hear from you

greetings

do you have any black screen issues? seems like QHD models have this problem
hey!
so far luckily no black screen.

i really curious if this a software issue or a hardware issue out of the box.

I m planning to replace my desktop with my razer blade.

to be honest when this not work as expected, i thinking about to switch.

regards
Nico
I am having the same problem. There seems to be some pretty bizarre behaviour trying to get 240Hz to work. And when I do, I get artefacts on the screen.

Like you - out of the box 60Hz seems to be the only option available in Synapse software - and the only way I can get 240Hz is via the NVIDIA control panel - selecting NVIDIA GPU ONLY.

I have successfully connected an external monitor though, at 165Hz via USB-C/Displayport or Thunderbolt/Displayport - but when I do - the laptop display will not go above 60Hz and appears to insist on only working with the Intel GPU.
sounds good that I'm not the only one with the problem. or not^^
for 2 days I have been waiting for a response from razer. so far, I have not received any solution for this.
I hope that will change soon.
I already did some research on reddit, there are also some with exactly the same problem.
actually I wanted to buy razer care directly to insure the device, but I'm hanging in the air because I still don't know exactly what the problem is. luckily I canceled my stay abroad, which is why I bought the notebook.
I will let you know if something changes for me.

I was able to make some progress with this - By going into the BIOS, going to the Chipset menu and changing GPU mode to Dedicated GPU only. Now everything is much more flexible via NVIDIA control panel, multiple monitors, GSYNC and all other options are available. Synapse is even behaving how i'd expect and there's a 240Hz option available for the laptop display (which wasn't there before) - but the intel gpu is completely disabled.

In summary, I have my laptop display running at 240Hz, and my secondary monitor at it's maximum 165Hz.

I'm sure this isn't how it's supposed to work but it's a satisfactory work around for now.

Hope this helps you too.
sounds like a good workaround.
does this affect the battery life?

I would think so - I think this is bypassing Optimus from my research. For me though - battery life is unimportant.
okay. this works so far. thanks for the workaround.

but as expected its drained more battery life.

i hope it will be fixed soon.
surely its software issue. but if its wont be fixed this doesnt matter. have you tried moving to older driver or updating BIOS(GPU BIOS too)
i tried recovery and for sure. multiply times. driver are both tested updated driver and reroll driver.

about the bios update, is it safe? and where do i find the right bios drivers?

actually I dont recommend you to upgrade your BIOS for now. you can read this topic _/razer-blade-pro-2020-cant-update-nvidia-drivers.58932/page-20

its really close problem and well-known but im happy that youve avoided this issue. your problem actually not a problem at all, its just how it works - it cant change dinamically refresh rate since if optimus will turn your graphics to intel uhd it wont be able to handle 240Hz i think

so you are not facing problems like black screen after sleep/hybernation or playing games when your discrete-GPU is set to ON?
okay, i don't think it's the way it should be.
So you want to tell me as an otto normal user I first go to the bios with a new notebook to get what I was promised? I do not think so.
slowly my patience is running out.
the notebook does not work as it should. that is a fact. so far no solution has been offered to me. I wasn't even given a solution. just a workaround from another user. it can't be, can it?
so far the force has been dragging the constant back and forth writing.
and as I have already mentioned several times, we are talking about a purchase price of 3000 euros.
Hi mate,

I'm largely in agreement with you - but I watched a few videos on youtube regarding NVidia's Advanced Optimus. It helped me to understand why the laptop works the way it does. I wish i'd read up and researched a bit more before making the purchase - but here we are.

My biggest concern was that it didn't work the way i'd expected it to out of the box.

Thank you!

im not telling this mate. Ive just asked to understand in what condition your laptop now. what about this question:

so you are not facing problems like black screen after sleep/hybernation or playing games when your discrete-GPU is set to ON?

its very important. i need this answer to help you, please
yeah sometimes.

when i start the notebook and its getting into sleepmode on the windows login screen the display stays black and didn't turn on.

i had to do a hard reset then. this a happens a few times. but so far only in the login screen.

hope that helps.
Hello everyone together,

here are some experiences so far with the support for my problem with the razer blade.
This is all very energy sapping and I am now at the end of my patience.

I still don't have a solution to my problem.

I've been writing to support for over a month and still don't have a solution.

and no solution is offered to me.

I would like to refer to this video which describes my experience with the support pretty precisely.

I will have a phone call with support soon, but if no solution can be found I will ask for my money back.

I am already in contact with people with the same problem on reddit and YouTube.

so far I strongly not recommend buying notebooks for this price from razer.
