Razer blade 15 RTX 2019 Coil whine Problem?

Userlevel 1
I have this noise in my razer blade 15 rtx 2080 max-q model. I asked for replacement but the replacement unit also has the exact same noise. I contacted razer again and send them videos of the issue. The person willing to offer a replacement but still insists that it is fan noise even though I watched the fan at the back of my laptop sitting still there (I closed all other applications, including those at the background to get the fan stop moving). He also stated that this level of noise is normal and acceptable. I would like the community to help me identify whether this razer support is not being helpful or I am just inexperienced. Here is the video for the noise: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dhv2inbj68ndxjg/IMG_1592.MOV?dl=0. Sorry I am new to this issue, never had any problems with my lovely MacBook Pro or Asus ROG laptops.

Update: Now they are out of stock for replacement and dont know the timeline for it, most likely gonna have to wait a month to get my razer back after spending 3k dollars on it. Just checked their website and somehow the unit is still in stock, I guess it is just impossible for them to grab a new unit from stock and send it to me and have to wait for "replacement unit" to arrive.

OMG I am having exactly the same problem and it is frustrating to say the least. I have contacted support and they tried to fob me off saying it was fans when it 100% wasn't, the fans werent even on. They eventually agreed it was coil whine and offered a potential replacement but if I am just going to receive the new one with exactly the same issue then I am very concerned. Why do Razer make such great products but have such poor QA?? It sounds like its coming from near the SSD or memory of the keyboard area, I saw people having similar issues with stealth and that was SSD? What are you going to do? I cannot just put up with this on a 2800 pound laptop!
I hope they’ll fix their QA soon cause a lot of people are having this issue right now.

Yes, I also bought that model (2080 Max-Q) and mine has the same issue too. As Mokin711 did, I also once got a replacement but the new unit has the same coil whine issue. But.. fortunately... it's around 30~40% better than before. So I've started getting used to this, haha...

My Blade 15 with RTX 2080 Max-Q

* 0 (Non-detected), 1 (weak) to 10 (strong)
* Before replacement (Original unit)
Coil whine from CPU part : 3. Yes it had. Usually it was not audible. But I could hear coil whine when running some CPU intensive works.
Coil whine from GPU part : 10. Wow, it was something like bunch of bees are hanging around me. Fan noise was not even an issue at all, because this coil whine sound was much overwhelming. I could obviously hear all the coil whine sound when running 3D games, especially Assassin Creed Odyssey + Resident Evil 2 RE. Earphones or headphones are required to play 3D games. Even with manually capped max 60fps.
Coil whine from PSU (power brick) : 0. No issue even with high CPU + GPU load.

* After replacement (New unit)
Coil whine from CPU part : 0. It's gone now. Nice.
Coil whine from GPU part : 4. It's much better than before. But when my blade 15 does spike more than 75FPS in gaming, that coil whine will be coming back to me again. It's a nightmare. And this depends on which games I play. I can hear coil whine very well when playing Assassin Creed Odyssey, while there is less coil whine from Forza 4 even Forza 4 loads more than 75fps..
My tip here is... cap the max fps by enabling Whispering Mode in Geforce Experience. This will not only reduces coil whine, but also reduces fan noises. At this, if you do undervolting Blade 15, it will be much better for playing 3D games.

Once I capped the max fps by 60 or 75fps, that coil whine issue was almost no more issue to me, because it was barely audible.
But the question here is... I bought 144hz laptop but cannot use this at all ? because of this coil whine from GPU part ?
Coil whine from PSU (power brick) : 0. No issue even with high CPU + GPU load.

I spent almost USD 3,400 for buying this.
Blade 15 with RTX 2080 Max-Q is really awesome but I really want to buy a good one, not this coil whine machine.

Dear Razer team, how can we solve this coil whine issue ?

I had once worked for adjusting 3G/4G antenna values of smartphones at shielded rooms. If QC/QA team is familiar with playing games and high-end gaming graphic cards, then they will obviously test this coil whine at shielded rooms, because they know this coil whine is a big issue to gaming users.
Most of gaming users don't play games in noisy places, they will do play games in such quite places like a room at home.
I believe there are awful, poor quality coils coming from your component vendors. (Better QC/QA is required to get this fixed)
In Reddit, I see many Razer Blade 15 users are suffering and complaining from such coil whine issues.
I hope Razer will get this fixed.

Otherwise, at least please let people know that you don't guarantee coil whine-free products in Razer Blade 15 product pages.

Whatever it’s, it is not normal working product that CS should go to repair center where your Blade is being sent. To me straight RMA again. I had also never heard that from my Blades 2015~2018, late 2016 14 had unstoppable fans issues but addressed with bios update but that coil whine I don’t think.

I need to RMA mine. Do Razer expect you to send yours back and wait while they send a replacement or do they let you receive replacement first before sending faulty one back avoiding time without a computer?

You can ask CS to send store voucher right after your faulty unit arrived to center point where they asked you to send in and order new one or ask to send it from repair center if they’ve any stock there to reduce time without Blade. Idk if they can send it before you send yours back now, but from my experience in 2017 I don’t think so. My time without Blade was only a week since after my Blade arrived EU check point in Germany same day they sent voucher (I live in Germany, Saturday sent, Monday arrive, Monday night order), got the Blade in Friday, was also not expecting so fast thought would be like 2 weeks or so, they sent it from HK quite fast 3 or 4 days after the order, it was in 2017. Idk maybe it’ll be vary according the place.

Hi there guys! Can you send over your case numbers to me through PM? I'd like to take a look. Please make sure to include the link to this thread as well.

I am not sure how seriously the quality control problem is but I feel like a lot of people are getting annoyed by the coil whine problem and it is not getting solved. Either the new replacement has the exact same problem or the chat support insists that the noise is just fan noise and it is normal. Maybe I should ask someone like Dave2d who has some publicity to report the issue like the 2018 Macbook Pro thermal issue to get this thing noticed because I don't really see the other way around to stop the issue that customers paying over 2-3k dollars and ended up dealing with broken out of the box product from the manufacturer. Razer says I have to send mine back to get the new one, which is exactly the reason I bought it on amazon in the first place, because they offer replacement before you send in the old one to save you some time. Sadly this time amazon can't help because I already ordered the replacement that also has coil whine noise and they cannot offer a second replacement. Now I understand why macbooks are priced so high, clearly, it is for a reason. This whole incident just reminds me how much I love my time with my Macbooks that never made any coil whine noise in their history. If my new unit ends up having the coil whine noise (which I know it will happen, because the chance of getting a healthy unit is like winning a lottery and I for sure expect razer to claim the noise is normal, as the razer support says in the chat that their machines are equipped with the most advanced technology and therefore has no problem), I will have to live with it and just appreciate more about my lovely MacBook pro.

Razer have really dissappointed me tbh, they will not give me an advance replacement unless I essentially buy a new laptop from them and refund the old one. Can you believe that? They are selling 100s of faulty laptops with coil whine problem and treat customers like shit, I mean look at the slew of Amazon reviews where people are now complaining about this problem. It is obviously a design flaw/bad batch yet refuse to acknowledge it.
I have the same issue. Still waiting for the instructions to get the replacement. I also thought it was the ssd but they told that it's the fans
