Razer Blade 15. Success stories, or is that so bad?

    Hey guys, I am currently planning to change my Macbook Pro with Razer Blade,
    but when I am looking in internet for reviews or so, I see so many negative feedback, complaints, that it gets 100* C when play the game, have noisy fans that are kicking when you sitting in internet, that it dies often, and that almost everybody has returned it at least one time.
    So Im wondering, is that so bad? How can it be ? Even taking into account that it is actually out of stock(what means that company has sold whole party).
    Or it is just few people that had bad experience posting that on forums, while 98% will never go and post anything, due to common success with the product.

    Im planning to buy that from hands, from one guy who brought that from Germany.
     
  2. Consider this:

    1) People with problems will always be the vocal minority. Those who have it working flawlessly are gaming right now and don't have time to browse forums to tell everybody how awesome it is. So take it wit ha grain of salt.

    2) First batch is always more faulty than the consequent batches. It's always better to wait a month or two before you buy brand new electronics.

    3) From my subjective point of view, the reviews of Razer Blade 15 on YT have been very good.

    I’m happy with my Blade 15, bought a month later after announcement since in EU it released around a month later. The downside only minimum backlight Bleeding on bottom area compared to my previous Blade 14 FHD which was free of it. The CPU and GPU are beast, and on such thin cassis high temperatures are expected, but I got only 95 max if I maxed everything on gaming mode (OC mode), with avarage high 80 ish, but I got around 10 FPS better than default model, I can manage it 84 by limiting turbo boost, undervolting etc with lower FPS as trade off. I tested also afterburner OC till max but CPUs won’t hit 100, and never had crash or lagging from thermal throttling even on some cores it shows throttling. The fans is also quiter compared to my previous Blade 14 and users can adjust the fans Profil as they prefer. On idle literally it’s dead silent to me, sometimes when there’s something working on background it’ll kick on but not disturbing. I would recommend get the Blade directly from Razer or official reseller though due the warranty.

    I am currently on my second Blade 15. The first one had a dead pixel so I returned it. So far, the new one has no issues, but it's only been two days. It's pretty quite at idle compared to my old laptop (MSI GS60). If I put it in gaming mode, it sounds like a high pitched turbo engine, but keeping it in balanced mode, the fans don't get too far out of control. It gets warm while gaming, but that's to be expected. Battery life is about 5-7 hours for light web surfing/typing/video streaming usage. I cloned the SSD and upgraded to 1TB for more storage.

    I have two gripes: the Bluetooth device driver seems very iffy, or at least it has issues with the Razer Atheris in Bluetooth mode. The mouse has problems re-connecting after a power cycle or sleep where other devices I own don't. It also seems like the Bluetooth driver stack is crashing or freezing, as sometimes the device disappears from windows and I have to reboot to get it to show back up. The other gripe is the Synapse 3 software which is extremely buggy. It often freezes after the system has been to sleep or on the lock screen. I know the Synapse 3 issues aren't specific to this laptop because I use it on my desktop as well.

    Other than those two issues, I'm enjoying the purchase a lot.

    I would recommend getting it from an official reseller rather than Razer, since Razer's support is known to be unresponsive and frustrating (just quoting other people). They're improving it as much as they can though :sweat_smile:

    Yes. This. 1000 times yes.

    Razer has stepped there game up recently to improve their support from the look of things. But, considering how bad it was in years past they have a long way to go.

    Now most of laptops are probably just fine. My 2016 Razer Blade 14 is still working very well. It's slowed down alot and the wifi sometimes doesn't connect when I turn it on. But, it runs well enough.

    Laptop has been AWESOME. Heat management the same. Keyboard response surprised me, better than expected. Synapse, still getting used to, but the color effects are cool! ONLY complaint so far is for the function keys, on the chroma lighting, they didn't include the special characters (*, &, etc.) and that makes it hard in a darker room to hit those characters just right. Really though, that's a minor complaint because this thing is freaking amazing.

    It depends on support team, i find here in Germany I am never disappointed with Razer Support, just call them in Hamburg and Problems solved, as well laptop replacement and repair, like “Autobahn” here fast and free;). Such support I didn’t find in other gaming laptops manufacturers CS despite Dell, never had experience with them, but seems nice.

    I wish I lived in Germany then. In the US it's generally hard to get ahold of them by phone. I remember I had to google search for the phone number a couple years back as they hid the number because they wanted you to contact them by email. I haven't tried the voice chat yet since that's a new one for me. Should be alot easier to get a hold of them that way. I can tell ya that fast and free is not a thing over here. We have to wait and it costs money. :confused_:

    I'm on blade stealth number 3. So long as you purchase a good 3rd party warranty and don't plan on keeping the laptop beyond the end of the warranty term, you'll be fine. I will not be replacing it with another razer.

    I've also developed much better backup habits since before I started using the razers.

    When my current stealth dies I'm not sure if I want to get a precision 5520/5530 or go back to a macbook. Now that the novelty of windows has worn off I'm kinda over the PC thing. But the dells sure are sexy *drool*. The stealth is also kinda dinky processing-wise. It's great with the core, but... you can't really take that with you. Love the size, looks, and battery life, which is the best thing razer has going for it (over my old macbook pro).

    Now that I have a separate PC tower for SW modeling/simulation I could probably get away with an ipad instead of a laptop. Hmmmm.

    Bought 1 and 2 around the same time spring 2016.

    Bought #3 to replace #2 when it started having random BSOD's on a fairly regular basis when it was around 12 month age. Then the same thing happened to #1 (wife's laptop) around the 15 month age. Mine would only do it a few times a week at first so I sold it on ebay before it got too bad. Hers wouldn't stay up for more than an hour and it even crashed while we were trying to do the system restore (creating a huge headache as I had no w10 media at the house and the recovery partition was corrupted at that point) So we sold it to a dealer (she felt bad unloading it to some random person :rolleyes:).

    The laptop I have now will be 1 year old at the end of July, but since I bought it from amazon with an extended warranty that guarantees it will be perfectly reliable (it has been so far).

    Murphy's law says you'll only have a razer problem if you don't do backups and don't have a warranty. I like it and I like cheering for the little guy and I believe more competition in the marketplace is a good thing so I wouldn't come right out and say don't buy one. I would say, that if you buy one... and it breaks... and you complain, then you are going to be looking like the guy complaining that his alfa romeo is always in the shop. It kinda comes with the territory.

    They actually weren't BSOD's, the machine would completely halt requiring a reboot. If sound was playing it would just keep looping whatever was in the sound chip's buffer. Etc, etc. Because the machine completely stopped there would be no stop error and no dump file to give to Razer's Service Maroons so I didn't want to waste my time with them.

    R.E. internet reviews: Do not trust what some dude on the internet says who was just shipped a laptop and t-shirt for free after he booted it up and played with it for 3 days.

    If you want a barbecue GO !
    Mine (gtx1070) is extremely hot. In game I always reach 95 - 100 degrees
    After many emails and test of the device razer tells me that everything is fine.
    They even answered me that it was not a gaming laptop!
    Today I do not use it to play anymore and I'm thinking of selling it !
     
  14. Well you should waste their time at least. Are you sure it wasn't just Windows? Did you try Linux?

    That's unacceptable. Have they actually refused to RMA it? Have you tried repasting and padding?

    It’s expected to be hot but not reaching 100, yes it isn’t good. I remember i can max the setting to get 99, but never see 100, because i think it’s the limit cpu thermal. Look at balanced profile with 4600 fans profile, that’s my setting and I do only xtu -125mV undervolting, no repasting job or opening the Blade at all.
    How can they say not gaming laptop. After I saw benchmarks in several laptops including MacBook, the manufacturers lock the performance to handle with this extra cores cpu, MSI gs65 is quiter and slightly cooler, because they lied to costumers by locking the performance, Aero 15x slightly better performs but Blade 15 still way better, and MacBook Pro 15 2018 don’t buy it, their 8850H still performs under Blade 15 8750, only win on single core Geekbench, multi core and cinebench Blade 15 is way better, and costs maybe 1K lower. I manage running AC Origins, Far Cry 5 max on low 90ish, my old 7700HQ laptop was around 2 or 3 degrees cooler but I prefer over 30% performance boost. It’s hot days here in EU, maybe in winter it’ll be better. For around 14 months playing on high 80ish my Blade 14 was without hardware issue, but if it’s near limit 100 i would be definitely worried.

  17. What? Temperatures in the 90s are not normal! With 90+ he radically decreases his device's longevity.

    Hers would freeze in the BIOS/EFI setup screen if you waited long enough... They wouldn't do anything because it was too old, there would be a diagnostic fee and it was still working well enough to sell. That was with my 13 month old laptop that would only do it once a week or so at first. Hers was several months older than mine so I didn't bother.

    There will be a new one out soon anyways, who cares? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

    Laptops cpu temperature are higher than desktop and it’s built to bear in high temperatures. Most of my games are CPU hungry, like Far Cry, Witcher, Assassin creeds, GTA series, in last three years I’m doing mostly on Blade, no hardware issues, only software like from windows, synapse or nvidia update. You can get lower temperature if you want by lowering processors state %, but performance drop as trade off like you see on MacBook Pro 15 CPU, its 8850H even performs under my 8750H on Blade 15, unbelievable.
     
  20. Yea, as long as you have lots of money to spend...

    What? Just because it worked for you for three years doesn't make it not fundamentally WRONG. Maybe you don't mind just frying your motherboard throughout and get a new laptop every few years but in the older times good computer longevity was implicitly assumed. I repeat, 90+ temperatures are UNACCEPTABLE.
