Its a backward announcement. Maybe do a plastic, budget sub $500 one next.
Let hope they bring a shell version of phone 2 (as I wouldn't be playing games on one) and knock a few hundred dollars off and spin it as doing everyone a favour.
But hey its my opinion, I get yours, just don't think you get mine but hey at least we are adding comments ;).

I once had the same opinion. But then, I had kids and couldn't justify buying every shiny new tech that comes out anymore, so I can now appreciate when a company like Razer release a cheaper product! lol

But yeah, it's not by "Razer Standards" to release a "new" product that is "less" than the current one. But it's mostly aimed at people that can't afford (or don't want to spend the money on) the more "prestige" products, so I think it's a good idea. They cover a wider customer base that way.

Being in the UK blade 15 4k is my 1st razer laptop, great thrill to have one and doing a ton of YouTube content for it.
Agree with you its price premium but its what your getting for it. Don't think people realise how hard it is to make a vapour chamber, and now they are putting it in a phone WTF.
So I am not against the idea of a base model just it can be a spiral down where they loose focus like so many other companies have in the past and Razer looses hip and become, nah I get an acer, dell etc.

Now I want the phone, for proper speakers with HDR Netflix, and cameras for me shoots. Not interested in games but I'd rather have the GPU in it than not. Maybe run a benchmark to get it hot to warm me hands up in the cold damp winter nights or something for my arthritic cat to sleep on. *Cheeky I know but its an idea!

So, a couple of questions on the Base model as I've not seen a lot of discussion on it (given the price and specs it has potential coupled with a Core X and nice external monitor):
    1. I'm still using my trusty 2015 Blade due to it having backlighting of the special characters and function key symbols (I know, what??) Every iteration of the Blade since that time has eliminated that specific backlighting, except that it looks like it may have returned on the new 2018 Base model keyboard which is single zone. Is that true?
    2. Can someone explain the storage interfaces for the two drives on the Base model. Per the specs, the 128/1TB combination has a SATA-3 on the SSD, and the 256/2TB has an NVMe. How is that possible unless either the two motherboards are different in this respect, or there's an adapter being used on one of the drives? Also same question about the interface for the HDD (that one must be SATA-3, so maybe both are and it's the NVMe drive using an adapter?)
    3) Is the slight increase in chassis size for this model expected to potentially lower thermals coupled with the 1060 as the only GPU option?

At first I was drooling over the new Mercury White advanced since I'm tired of the black and dealing with the smudging (even skinned), and I'm not necessarily constrained by budget, but giving this more thought I'm actually kind of considering the Base model as a more flexible option... with a Core X and desktop 1070 it's actually equally or even less expensive than the advanced, and I'm thinking may run a little cooler.

Received my Mercury White (1060) a couple days ago; I think I got one of the earliest orders in. Impressions are very good. It's the exact same build quality as the regular black model, but with a finish that's very fingerprint/smudge resistant (at least compared to the black).

I still really wish they'd have incorporated Windows Hello support into the hardware. I don't grok how this was missed, but hopefully it will be added in a future edition. Regardless, this 2018 model Blade is a solid winner. I'm coming from an MSI GS65 and while I'd say they're both really great laptops, I'm enjoying the longer battery life in the Blade.

Blade 15 can use both sata and Nvme, unlike previous Blade models. Yes it seems functional key light up on base model, I asked early adopter but not answer yet. About thermal I doubt it’ll be better than Blade 15 that use vapor chamber, you’ll want to repasting it with better pad if temperature is high, heat sink is similar with previous Blade 14. About core setting on gaming laptop, yes it’ll help cooling the cpu temperature but 1070 egpu performance won’t be better than 1060, mostly due TB3 bandwidth vs direct PCIe3 on dgpu, to get advantage performance on egpu over host laptop with dgpu you’ll want high end gpu in the core.

Coming from GS65? Isn’t that new model, not 6 months yet?

I think I saw your unboxing on YouTube, looks nice. What model SSD did you get? I've seen reviews that some are shipping with the PM981 and others with the older 961. Not that I think it makes much practical difference, just curious. The Mercury was back in stock yesterday morning so I went ahead and snagged one.

The GS65 was paid for by my previous employer (laid off). They're going to wipe the system and return it to me, but I needed something in the interim.

Yeah, it appears to be the PM981 (Samsung MZVLB512HAJQ per the device manager).

I think Razer is always using faster SSD on 512gb~, my 256 comes with pm961, previous Blade 14 with 512gb default was faster model than other users with 256gb cheapest model at that time.

This is my first post in this forum as I have just purchased the Razer Blade base model (in gunmetal finish). I am not looking at this machine to game but as a high graphics, light weight power house "mobile workstation" capable of running robot offline programming software and perform other functions I need for business.

With regard to the HDD, can it be replaced with a 2.5" SSD? I am not sure why it wouldn't be but thought I would simply ask. Thanks in advance!

I just bought an "Advanced Model" Blade 15 with a 1060, for the slimmer body, bigger battery and better cooling, but that review has me turning my head. I'd like to know more about the Blade BM though, before I decide whether to exchange.

Are there any temperature/noise benchmarks out there yet? I'm also interested in eGPU performance - the TB3 port on the original Blade 15 went through the PCH, reducing the available bandwidth for TB3 devices. Does anyone know if that's still the case?

    Thanks :D

Also the Mercury is stunning! I was pretty disappointed when I realised it won't be coming to my region.

Razer Blade 2018 just arrived at my local BestBuy. 2tb m.2 nvme ssd and 4tb 2.5" ssd arrived at my PO Box. I have already received my memory upgrade (to 32gb). It looks like a weekend of upgrading. I am now looking to clone the ssd with OS.

Damn that would be more expensive laptop compared to my advanced model;) You need Razer Core, 2080ti, g sync monitor and it’ll be rocking at least 5 years:)
