Does anyone know if the settings or specs of the two USB ports are different?

When I plug in my external hard drive (samsung t3) to the right USB, everything seems fine, particularly, when I put the laptop to sleep, the hard drive shuts off.

However, when I attach the hard drive to the left USB, and I put the laptop to sleep, the hard drive will shut down for a second, but then quickly boot back up. I left it like this overnight one time (before I realized this) and the hard drive was hot, having been on all night. I have also noticed that when my hard drive is connected to the left, there will occasionally be very brief moments of connection/disconnection. I have not noticed this connection/disconnection episodes with any other peripheral.
Both ports charge my phone in while in sleep mode.

    Any ideas?

This is totally not normal imo. I think you should file in a ticket to Razer support and see what they think and possibly let you change for a new one. Hope your problem gets fixed soon.
  3. I was curious as well..so tried it on my RBS and have the same observation.
In sleep mode..the left side USB will have enough power to keep an external HD on, while the right won't. When the pc is turned off - the external hd will stay off.

Also, while not mentioned, I've noticed that my laptop stand w/ usb fan will stay on when the pc is off, but it's power cord is hooked up.

I googled a bit and i don't think it's a problem per say, but more of a windows setting/feature to have power so that certain devices (like mice) to wake the computer from hibernate. Why certain ports have different power going through them at certain states though feels like a weird finding though. It seems like changing the usb setting should resolve the issue/concern.

I used to charge my phone from laptop battery when latter is turned off. I do not remember which port was it but it does not sound like a problem in any case. AFAIK, there is an option in BIOS related to USB power, check that out.

Sorry, my wrong then :) I have never encountered this problem on my devices so I assumed that it should not act that way

Your HDD does not act as supposed since it drains power when idle. RBS just provides power, it does not care what is attached to it once it is turned off. The difference in behavior of left and right USB ports is a riddle, though.

It's possible that the left port remains a power port when the computer is off/sleeping, making it possible to charge devices when the computer is off while the right port is a normal port that turns off when the computer is off/asleep.

Need someone from Razer to confirm if this is true.
