Hi, just had a headache this morning trying to get Ubuntu to work on Razer Blade.

I am dual-booting Ubuntu on Razer Blade 2018 Advanced GTX 1070.

On a clean installation if I use Nouveau display driver (under additional drivers), connecting external monitors work fine. However, if I install any version of the NVIDIA driver metapackage, no external monitor is detected, neither through Ubuntu settings nor through xrandr.

Strangely after installing NVIDIA drivers, external monitors stop working on Noveau drivers as well.

In addition to this, it only seems to be the HDMI port that is disabled. Using a USB-C dongle to HDMI seems to be working, but I still want to be able to connect additional screens.

I have tested on a clean installation on Ubuntu 18.10 and 19.04, as well as all the available versions of NVIDIA drivers available to each version. I have also tested switching between external and internal GPU using the NVIDIA drivers, but same problem.

I am using Noveau drivers on a clean at the moment, but I think this is always using the external GPU which causes battery life to suffer.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue, and has anyone found a solution?
  2. Hi Attrois,
I use Ubuntu 19.04 and I found a solution with good refresh values and good resolution with an external 4k display.

    You can try this :
    - Use Nvidia drive (latest version, actually nvidia-driver-418) from software updates / addit. drivers
    - Edit this file /lib/modprobe.d/nvidia-kms.conf and turn off this option : options nvidia-drm modeset=0.
    - Run sudo update-initramfs -u
    - Restart comptuer

    Hope it can help you.
