I've seen quite a bit of discussion on this and I thought I'd just weigh in.

External GPUs have been attempted - but nothing like the Razer Core. We worked with Intel, AMD and nVidia to make this happen and it's truly the world's first true plug and play external gaming enclosure.

That much said, we didn't lock it down - and other parties can work on connecting to it. However, the experience is unlikely to be as seamless as using a Razer Blade and Core together (for other laptops connecting to the Core may need rebooting instead of plug and play, frequent BSODs etc). It's not because we've locked it down - it's because there's a lot of work that's needed to make this happen and we've pioneered this. It's incredibly difficult - it's a feat of engineering both hardware and software.

So coming to the price, we could probably have made it cheaper if we made it super big, plastic etc - it might be $300-$350 maybe. So yes - we designed a single block all aluminum chassis as opposed to plastic or even paneled aluminium. Further, the size is about half of that of other attempts at graphics enclosures. All this comes at a premium. It's a work of art.

And for those who know the design philosophy of Razer, you'll know why we designed it as such. We don't design to price - we design to the very best experience. And it's $399 for Blade users - for those who already purchased a Blade Stealth, they'll get access to it at this price too.

For those on a budget, there will be other companies will will make this in plastic, paneled aluminium etc, they will be much larger/bulkier, they will BSOD often etc - but they will be cheaper - so don't fret - these should come out in a year or two by other companies just like those who copied the Blade (and made cheaper versions) - so the option will always be there.

So what do you get for the $50-$100 more? The best possible experience and the best possible design and - you get it a year in advance of everyone else (if they even make it).

  2. I purchased the Blade Stealth on Mar 9th. Ship date is Mar 21st. The wait is killing me.

How do I go about ordering the Core when it's released for $399?

  5. Just wondering: do those who just pre-ordered the new razer blade get the 100 dollar discount off of the core too? Or is it strictly to those who have purchased the stealth?

Hey Min, did you ever consider having the ability to place an external CPU into the Core alongside the GPU? It'd be worth it due to the somewhat low speed of the i7 :3 It'd be a cool idea to think about the test with for future iterations of the Core if Razer decide to expand on it. It'd be nice to think about.

Edit: No matter I am certainly going to get myself a Core and Blade (Or an updated Pro) at the end of the year for my student/gamer needs.

Thanks, Min. I think $399 is definitely a fair price, and I like the pricing structure as those that want one to use with say an XPS 13 have to pay more than those that have invested in a Razer laptop.

Great news, but still, 499$ for what it is its a lot of money. For me personally is overpriced. It costs that much like a good graphics card :slightly_sad:
And then, imagine prices in Europe, 499 Euro...

Thanks for this post Min. I'm glad Razer isn't leaving early supporters of the Stealth behind. I can't wait to get mine.

saw that... Think this applies for blade buyers who have already purched the blade. So the actual statement is "for those who already purchased the blade or the blade stealth, they'll get access to it at this price too?"

I read it different. I read it as users who have purchased the Blade that are Core compatible are eligible for the discount.

If you are stating that won't be out for a year or two, how would you know if they will BSOD often? In my opinion that is a misleading and possible use of scare tactics to try to drive sales. Not saying that the Core won't be a nice accessory, but it still seems like a poor marketing srategy.

Lol is this a joke? $500 and $400? It'll come out to about the same as a blade at this point with a gpu

Good to know that Blade purchasers get a discount. Still expensive after the discount, but take it or leave it. As for me, I'm thinking about getting the Blade soon and the Core in a couple of years. The 970M is just fine for me right now, but by the time I need an upgrade, I'll be able to afford the Core and a new GPU.

  20. This sounds great, how do I make sure I'm signed up to receive any emails from razer store?
