Razer Opus ANC hissing and squeaking

Does anyone who owns the Razer Opus find that the ANC feature creates an abnormally loud white noise effect, with a sort of faint squeaking noise, almost like light water flowing around a small fountain? I am experiencing this, and am trying to figure out if my unit is defective or this is the correct functionality. Customer Support has not been helpful, and if it is in fact functioning correctly, then this is quite a poor product. Anyone have thoughts? Thanks!

I'm sorry if you feel that way towards our Support Team. With that said, issues like these are rather tricky to diagnose and troubleshoot. Do you mind sending me your ticket number? It would be best if I check what troubleshooting steps have been suggested so far.

I have the same problem! ANC makes annoying higher frequency background sounds!
Good to know! I haven't seen any reviewers mentioning it, and tech support doesn't think it's a problem, so I'm wondering how much of this is a potential defective device vs. not being able to trust reviewers because they get paid to promote products.

I wouldn't be here if I didn't think it can be an issue. As I said, things like these are rather difficult to diagnose. Some people can be more sensitive to higher frequencies, and it is also possible that the ANC on your headset was tuned slightly louder to level with how the drivers are tuned. We'd be able to replace your headset if it was bought from an authorized reseller.

@odjinud Please don't hesitate to send me a message so I can point you in the right direction.
But Razer won't replace the headset, so how does any of that help me?

I did everything support asked me to do. There was no difference in the sound no matter what, and there was no description of what types of noises are and are not appropriate to hear during ANC use. Thus, unless Razer was going to take a look at the headset, which they won't, there's nothing else to do.

The guy above you is a Razer staff member so PM him your support ticket number and he will look into the matter and hopefully solve it for you.

BTW I am using the Opus too and hissing when using ANC without music on does occur on many headphones with ANC. I had the Sony XM3 before the Opus and there was a faint hiss on that too. It shouldnt be high enough to bother you but everyone has ears with differing sensitivities so not sure if that is a defect in your Opus or just you noticing it more.

The squeaking is something of concern, the only time I have had squeaking is when my ears dont fully sit perfectly inside the earpads and I move my head around to cause the headphones to move. That creates a squeak for me because the pads move when the body of the headphones is physically moved. But if its happening to you without moving the headphones then your unit could be defective. Either way, Razer support is there to help and you should contact Caziel through PM so that he can help you out further.

@0V3R_K1LL There really isn't much for me to do. Our Support Team wanted to offer an RMA, but OP bought the headset from eBay.

Ah I see. Not much anyone can do given the circumstances. 😞

Yep, this exactly. Support can’t do anything so I’m really just curious at this point whether this is how the item is supposed to function. Your message makes me think this is definitely a defective unit, I have used a number of ANC headsets and understand a level of hissing is typical, but this is far more than other headsets and the squeaking is definitely from the speakers, not the earcups. I’ll give these to someone who doesn’t care about ANC and get another brand for myself. Thanks for your help!

The sound is not good even when when ANC is off. There are interference sounds like in old grandfather's radio.

I gave the same problems. I used these OPUS headphones just a few times. It was a big mistake to buy them. It does not sound good even if it would be cheep product. I am very disappointed.

It seems like it is not a one defective unit. It looks like many users have the same problem and we can just guess how many of customers returned the headphones right away.
I ordered them from razer.com Ireland and they shipped the package from Asia. I do not want to pay post fees to send it back. Just troubles for high price.
