Razer Phone 3 Cancelled?

Sad sad news if true. I know it's tough to push mobile products in the industry but, give it a chance. The market is craving for PC-to-mobile syncing hardware. For me it was either the Xperia XZ4 or Razer Phone 3. I guess it's just Sony at this point. Sad.

I'd like to hear it from developers on here and not just speculated news stories

Its dead boys. I would rather see Razer's development go towards peripherals, right now Logitech is kicking their butts in terms of technology. Would love to see a comeback from Razer who essentially started the gaming mouse industry.

I would rather it not be dead though. The Razer Phone series are the only phones with 120Hz display and great support for games. I could honestly care less about the phone's camera which it gets the most of its criticism from since a lot of phones these days are good enough as is for me. Slap in a headphone jack and it would the perfect phone for me. I would love to upgrade from my Google Nexus 6P to a Razer Phone 3.

I'm not too sure about what the "realignment plans" are for Razer but I feel like their phone lineup has been marketed so much to the point where it would be a waste to drop it.

Yes I second this, RP2 is moving in to right direction there’s no reason discontinuing it. I want also to upgrade my RP1 once RP use 7nm chip.

Same here, I want to upgrade whenever the Snapdragon 855 comes out since it comes with 5G and that shift to 7nm will be a big update. I just hope that a Razer Phone 3 does happen though.

I think part of why the Razer Phone is struggling is because Razer releases their phones with a 6-9 month old processor. At this point, a lot of Android buyers have already bought phones with new processors. In addition, the Razer Phone is also competing with the Apple iPhone and the Google Pixel lineup during this time-frame. The iPhone comes out with a stronger processor at this time while the Pixel comes out with the latest version of Android and is guaranteed the fastest update.

If Razer is reading this, I believe it would help a lot if the Razer Phone is released during the first half of the year than the second half. It would also help to release the phone for T-Mobile as well.

why worry about RP3?
i think we should be worrying about whether the RP2 will still be supported in the near future.
they've even released 30 over staff from their headcount.

There’s no reason not to be supported RP2 since pie will be rolled out this month.

Btw last year our company cut even more than main 30 staff and now our company growth is even bigger and faster than before.

Never confirmed to be discontinued... Don't mind the media click bate. RP2 support will continue and the Mobile division will press on.

The problem is that there isn't an official response from Razer. It would be easy to just hear from the company that these news aren't true but the silent treatment further implies that the individuals who lost their job are those who were working on the Razer Phone 3.

If the Razer Phone 3 isn't cancelled, I'm afraid that it will be very different from the Razer Phone 2 and could lead to a less innovative upgrade.

I honestly don't know how to feel about this. On one hand, I like how it looks like we'll be seeing a Razer Phone 3 but on the other hand, Razer will be collaborating with a shady company known as Tencent in pushing their mobile division... I honestly think it would have been better if Razer bought out another startup company or continued building their phones and services in-house than work with Tencent.

He said that this year focus will be on Software rather than Hardware. There was even a direct question if Razer Phone 3 will come this year, and our CEO somewhat eluded that question :big_grin_:
I didn't get the impression that we will see Razer Phone 3 coming this year, but who knows, maybe we all will be surprised.

This is exactly what happened to Windows Phone, which was a very stable and secure phone os with lots of performance options. It started with negative campaigning and rumors getting out of control, then developers and customers jumped ship, even though it hung on for quite a while, professional troll hit squads flooded the internet with more and more negative campaigning getting apple fanboys in a frenzy. Microsoft did not defend themselves thinking that they didn't need to because the product would speak for itself and suffered huge losses. Welcome to the new way of Marketing and Competing in the Modern age. Huge companies hire hoards of internet trolls to sabotage the competition, they even enlist reviewers who are known to love a certain brand to turn on that brand, everyone has their price is their motto...

It actually doesn't matter how good a product is if you can just get people to believe it's no good.

In a Chinese gamer's point of view, you can think of Tencent as EA except they publish almost all of the games there like a monopoly. They can freely milk Chinese gamers all they want and many gamers in China honestly don't like Tencent.

In a western gamer's point of view, or how it affects us in other words, it's more political than it is being taken advantage of by corporate greed. I would rather not go in depth as it pertains to politics but I'll try to summarize what I know. Most big Chinese companies are known for having ties with the Chinese Communist Party which is known for "shady" activities related to privacy and censorship. It gets to the point where the Epic Games Store was even accused of being a Chinese spyware program for being remotely associated with Tencent. Tim Sweeney, the founder of Epic Games, had to personally address this accusation to reassure customers that Tencent cannot gain access to their data just because they are one of their largest investors.

Now looking into their partnership with Razer, it can get very concerning especially since Razer is collaborating with Tencent in mobile devices. These are devices that contain private and sensitive user data. A collaboration with Tencent on the development of a mobile phone is a bad look for Razer and I highly advise against it.

If Razer cares about its public image then it's best to stay away from Tencent. It's better to look for other companies if they are looking to collaborate with game developers on the creation of a new mobile phone. I, for one, will likely be passing on the Razer Phone 3 if Tencent is involved with its development.

If it isn't too late, I hope @mltan keeps the development in-house or collaborates with other game developers instead of Tencent. Razer Phone 2 looks like an amazing phone and is one of the most improved phone when compared to its predecessor so it would be disappointing if the Razer Phone 3 is not up to par for the sake of cutting costs.

Thank you for elaboration @RocketSkates93. Yes, I knew some companies had/have monopoly in China, but didn't know that Tencent was one of them. Competition is always healthy for all the customers.
