Replacement for legacy Razer Surround 2.21

I've used the old Razer Surround Pro for several years for my directional sound needs, but the app has been discontinued for quite some time and does still have it's share of bugs. I've been actively looking for something to replace it with, but so far no luck. I think I've tried all the solutions there are and a few extra and all of them have pretty much the same problem. They add some useless effect/echo/reverb/EQ/cling-clang-footsteps effect, like listening to shitty multichannel loudspeakers in an echoing room. I dont need any of that. I use high-end studio headphones for a reason. I just need directional sound, not "spatial" sound. No effects, just the original sound with directional effect added to directional sound sources. No stereo echancements, no nothing that isn't already there in the original sound source.

I have not tried the new Razer Surround, since it's only available with new Razer headphones. I have tried THX Spatial, and its the same junk as everything else out there. In fact, it's pretty lousy even with it's directional effects.

So.. anyone have any ideas for me to try? Buy the cheapest Razer headset just to try the new Razer Surround? Altho, I bet that would force some "customization" meant for the specific headset I bought. I'd be happy to pay for the software only, provided I get to try it out first, like I have paid for the previous version.
