[RP2] Are we going to see Android Q?

As of this month many of the manufacturer are provided a slight info about which devices form theirs line-up get's an Android Q update.

What about Razer? Seeing they re-consider the plan for RP1 and are giving out info about Pie update coming pretty soon, are we also going to see 2 major upgrade cycle?

Just a little bit out of topic, what are your takes on update? Do you think manufacturer should do more support? I would say that 2 major upgrade are good, but Android is getting pretty modular and easier to upgrade than ever before, so i would say that adequate could be 3 major upgrade and security updates at least every quarter if not every month, what do you think?

For a manufacturer with only 2 phone releases that's a pretty high bar. It's a non-issue for me. If there a features/functions I got to have in "Q" I'll buy a phone that has "Q". I don't purchase phones with any future expectations from the manufacturer except with the functionality/features it was sold with. The SDLC (Development Life Cycle) on these devices are pretty short as it is with most tech today.
Personally I only see Q being after P as the only benefit you cited in the OP; what would the RP2 going to Q do for it that isn't there now?
I get your take on this.

But let's be honest, hardware isn't getting that much better YoY, so what matters for the user is the actual value he get's and when you buy a phone within premium segment, you are kind of expecting premium support, just as other manufacturer does. So improving the experience for user should be main focus and they can't do that just by hardware. Also getting security patches along is important.
Agree on the importance of software support.

Probably one of the big things for me is that Q is finally adding a system-wide dark mode to Android. I never liked light mode (I miss the Holo theme from ICS), so this is great for me.

For a company that only has two phones released (with a couple of carrier variants), it really shouldn't be this difficult to maintain regular security and software updates... but hey, what do I know?
I hope the update makes the phone ear speaker and microphone usable as I have ditched my RP2 and gone back to Samsung Galaxy S7 as phone calls are impossible on the RP2. Seems to be only good as smart gaming console and nothing more.
I've been really considering whether I should continue to use my RP2 or get another phone. I've only had it since Feb and Pie came a couple months later, but my concern remains on the security updates. That is an Android must and should be "phone manufacturer 101". I pay attention to cyber security related stuff and every now and then an exploit for Android comes out that is sys related not app related. It bugs me to follow those stories and hear Google patched the exploit, yet, we're still rocking the Feb 2019 security patch. A patch is not an OS update, like the Pie to 10 and any interim number variant with a small feature fix/improvement. It is a necessity for personal security of you mobile device that contains most if not all of you personal information.

No info on Razer, but might be a good reference if OS updates and security patches are a need and not a want.
Honestly, if they don't get Q out to both rp1 and rp2 I think that's crap. Essential (a company that barely exists at this point) has consistently pushed out every single monthly security update and has already pushed the Q update. I know this because when I got my Razer Phone (1) around the same time I got the wife the Essential phone and often find myself wishing it had been the other way around as she doesn't deal with screen washout I'm sunlighy and has a phone that is as up to date as possible at a times.

BTW...dark mode in Q is awesome.

2 major OS updates us usually the norm for a device so I do expect (and hope) the RP2 to get it at some point.

I'll be poking over and over about it after this RP1 pie situation is all cleared up.
I hope Q improves the phone quality and camera quality as mine is worse than my old Nokia 6210. Anyone else has phone call quality and camera quality issues?
I want android q
I hope so I at least hope they do this at least for both 1st and 2nd phone
We haven't even had any security update for RP2 since February and you're asking for android 10? stop pulling their legs and leave them alone, they clearly dont care anymore.

That is a legitimate concern especially since rumors of the phone division going the way of the dodo, razer phone 3 is supposedly canceled which means we're probably not going to get any updates after this latest one
I got a security patch update for September 5th, I don't think they've given up. I think they're just a bit slow. Hopefully we get the android Q update for better GPS security features, and system updates through the google play store, this would take the load off of Razer a bit as far as updates are concerned and the end user would get a better experience.

the security updates from the play store.. wasn't there a feature in 8.1 that was supposed to be sorted by "Seamless updates" in Android 7.0 and Project Treble from Oreo 8.1 onwards?

Are Razer implementing this? a win win for everyone.. less work for them and regular security updates for customers! considering the vulnerabilities out in the wild right now it would be nice to be at least patched for security. Dark mode would be great too for less eye strain and extended battery life .

I think security updates are project mainline maybe in "Q"? I think the 3 links below serve as a good reference on the update picture.

You can now download Android 10 on phones from a few different companies, not just Pixels, and that list is constantly expanding. GB WhatsApp It's fair to say, then, that Android 10 is officially available.
I hope the RP2 gets the update to Q, I want to use desktop mode!
