Should I replace the battery for $50?

My Razer Blade Stealth 2016 Signature Edition has been with me for quite a while. It has always had about half of the alleged 6 hour battery life. That is until I did something really, really stupid. Like the idiot I am I left my computer on overnight running balloons tower defense endlessly, basically an extreme CPU load for hours, because I have internal graphics. The next day, there were consequences, my battery ballooned up and pushed out the bottom plate of the laptop. Battery life now would only get to 75% and would effectively be 1.5 hours of use, or 30 minutes of YouTube/streaming. To make things worse, a few months later, one of my cpu fans broke! It was clicking and stuck in place. I was not prepared to replace the fan or fix it, I tried clearing dust, but that didn't help. Ever since, I have had a paper clip jammed in the fan and taped to the bottom of the laptop. This is probably a stupid idea, but it stopped the incessant clicking noise. For the past year, I have had a gaming PC, and no need to use the Razer for games, I want to use it as a work station and to watch Netflix in bed. I have adjusted a lot of settings to use way less CPU, and save as much power as possible but, I am worried that the $50 battery replacement will not help, the 4k display really drains power. Should I spend the $50, or start saving for another laptop?

That 5 years old laptop, battery replacement is usual on such old laptop, 50 bucks isn’t expensive if it still feeds your needs, yes though 4K screen would drain battery faster but I think new battery enough for watching YouTube until you fall asleep, if not you’ve sleeping problem:big_grin_:. But the thing that I think more stupid, no offense but you claimed it yourself:smile_:, is using swollen battery, it’s a fire hazard, if you still want watching YouTube or Netflix take off that or it’ll be a cancer to your laptop’s parts. Not sure how you macgyvered that fans but if it works it’s okay, though I think it’s also not expensive on eBay or Amazon you have just to find correct part model. Blade stealth 2016/2017 despite that thick bezels is wonderful for your use case, and it’s my favorite ultrabook cassis I ever had, better than a MacBook.
