I'm currently getting ready to start college. I need a decent laptop for my computer science classes for software development and some occasional gaming. I need something somewhat small and portable for classes, but powerful enough to run and compile code smoothly. The stealth would be good, I think, but the dual core i7 has me wondering.I know its hyperthreaded, but still. Would a used Razer Blade (2014) for the same price be better? Thoughts?

No, knowing the longevity of these devices a used machine probably has months. Apparently they start to fall apart no matter how good you take care of it.

IMO, yes. Only problem with the 2014 blade is heat while gaming, but overall I'd say it's got really good performance for the same price.

I'd get the Razer Blade 14 (2016 version) if I were you, just wait until it hits the microsoft store (probably a month or two from now) then use the 10% student discount, it should make it worth the price.
I'm saying you should get the newer model mainly because when compared to the older model of the Razer Blade 14, improved thermals and battery should help with the longevity of your laptop (not to mention a used/refurbished product is probably not going to last as long as a new one).

If all you're doing is compiling code for college, the Stealth would be more than enough. The deciding factor is not the coding, but rather the gaming you'll be doing. You didn't mention what kind of gaming you're after. The Stealth doesn't have a discrete GPU so you wont be able to run nice games, unless if you're also planning on getting the Core + Desktop GPU.
