Surround Legacy (Synapse 2) NOT working with Win10 2004

I wonder if Razer is aware, or cares, seeing as this is a legacy platform, that the older Surround driver sounds improper on Windows 10 build 2004, or version 19041.33. An incredible amount of crackling and distortion present, also not the first time Windows 10 builds have broken compatibility with this. I'll try some troubleshooting through Windows channels, but it seems another update is due.

I cant use settings on synapse 2 too... (Kraken X USB) I tried everything
We have to wait for a patch, unfortunately. I hate having to revert back to 1909 just for this, but damn do I miss not having the sound be as profound.
same problems with razer ripsaw.
i hope they will update Synapse 2 .....
Had the same issue myself and I had to roll back the 2004 update just for this. Couldn't find an alternative to Razer Surround Pro that sounded nearly as good.

Driver Easy found an updated driver for my Realtek sound card and will attempt to update it but I have a feeling this won't fix the issue if I go to 2004 again.
Will Razer finally leave Synapse 2 behind and add legacy support to Synapse 3?
Same problem here
Hope there will be a fix 😢
Razer where are you ? No support ? Where is the update for 2004 ?

Cant use Synapse 2 . And Microphone takin music sounds etc. Cant fix it.. Windows Sound Properties cant do anything.. We need to use Synapse 2
I think they really dont care ..

Synapse 2
Release Date: 26 Jul 2019
same problem :(
I tried the clean installation too, but it is not working.
I think the only way to solve this is revert back to 1909 for now.
Need a fix for Synapse 2. ASAP !
if ver 1909 is the only choice can anyone point me to where i can get that version... i miss my surround pro... everything sounds robotic and glitchy now
If you haven't deleted Windows.old from your C: drive and you've updated to 2004 less than 10 days ago, you can go into Settings -> Recovery and then Get started under Go back to the previous version of Windows 10.
Still Razer Experts doesnt give a fck 😃 funny

There are only 3 possibilities:
- Razer is trying to fix it, but this is a huge problem
- Razer gave up on Synapse 2 and it's trying to move it on Synapse 3
- Razer it's not aware of the bug or simply it doesn't give a crap about it.
Look like programmed obsolescence to me.

As far as I know, the instability is caused by the KB4556799. Unfortunately, this isn't something you can uninstall, and the only workaround, for now, is to revert to the previous build until a patch fix is released. Our Devs have been working on this, but have not had any breakthroughs yet. We'd appreciate it if you guys can send your Synapse 2 logs by sending a feedback function on the app. You can also send them to me via PM. You can find the files in:

  • C:\\ProgramData\\Razer\\Synapse\\Logs
  • C:\\Windows\\System32\\MSInfo32.exe and export the information
  • C:\\Windows\\inf\\setupapi.app.log
  • C:\\Windows\\inf\\setupapi.dev.log
Thanks, have reinstalled the app and submitted the logs via feedback. Just FYI, the audio was fine when KB4556799 was installed on Windows 1909, I had it on for about a month before 2004 became available. Also as a test I tried installing on a laptop running 1909 (which is fully updated with all 1909 patches including KB4556799), the audio is fine on that too, so it is specific to W10 2004.
Fixed mine by reinstalling the driver and restarting the service. Working on a fully patched version of Windows 10 2004 and after multiple restarts. My guess is Windows isn't installing the driver properly when it's doing the upgrade to 2004.

If someone else wants to give this a go and report back...?:

1) Right click your start menu and select Device Manager.
2) Drop the arrow down on the "Sound, video and game controllers" option. Right click "Razer Surround Audio Controller" then Uninstall device. Click the option to uninstall.
4a) Normally at this point you can click the "Scan for hardware changes" button but that didn't seem to help for me. I had to manually select the driver using the following method:
4b) Click Action at the top then "Add legacy hardware". Click Next then select the (Advanced) option. Find and highlight "Sound, video and game controllers" in the list and click Next. Find "Razer Inc" in the left-hand list then you should see Razer Surround Audio Controller on the right. Highlight it and click Next. Click Next again to install it. (If the Razer Synapse window pops open at this point, just close it. I seem to remember mine did.) You can now close Device Manager.
5) Do a search on the start menu for "Services" (it's the one with two cogs), and open it.
6) Find "Razer Surround Audio Service" in the list, right click it and select Restart.
7) Open the Synapse app and try configuring it to use the right audio device then hit the button to turn it on, or toggle it off and back on.

If this works for anyone I'll take payment in Blade laptops, Razer support :wink_:
