The Future of CES Appreciation Sales

Should we still hold these appreciation sales in the future?

    We started this years ago when we started winning the Best of CES as a way to give back to the community and thank the people for believing in us - it was a fun way to get the community involved and we felt good that we could reward our fans in a small way.

    But I think things have changed since then - it used to be all in good fun, everyone would try to get the gear they wanted, the servers would always go down from the traffic, some couldn't add to their cart, some could, those who got the stuff they wanted were ecstatic, some didn't get the stuff they wanted and complained, but it was generally positive.

    This year - we screwed up - we reversed the codes but we fixed it in the first 30 mins and the sale went on for the next 23.5 hours. And yes - most of the store was sold out. And to address the issue of the reversed codes, I've decided to do another sale so that we can give those guys another shot at it - and during that sale, the servers will go down, things will be sold out, some will get their gear but some won't.

    But some things have changed - it used to be good natured (save for some who were really unhappy) but now, it seems like there's more unhappiness than general good natured celebrations. It's hardly about celebrating the Best of CES anymore but a whole lot of anger, etc.

    Which brings me to the poll - should we still do this in the future if we win major awards? Or is the unhappiness just not worth it?

    EDIT :

    I don't get it - I'm seeing overwhelming support for future appreciation sales despite all the negativity I'm seeing online. Or perhaps instead of 50% off in the future we should just do 10% so that the traffic won't be so great?

    I have always enjoyed the ces sale but there has to be a better way to hold them. I personally didn't buy anything but it was cool to see how excited people were getting.

    I love that you guys do not have to have these sales, but decide to do. I am glad you are making up for the reversed codes. That mistake is what made me not get the item i wanted, but I realize I am lucky I even had a chance to get things at 50% off and i appreciate that. If you never do a sale again it will not effect the fact that i still like and buy Razer products.

    i wish there was a better way to authenticate individual users or way to hold the sales. you guys don't hold specials that often and for me when this pops up it is an excuse to purchase that next razer product i may be on the fence about. this year was frustrating due to the code mixup i had what i wanted in my cart but by the time i realized the codes were mixed up everything i wanted was sold out. i appreciate the extended sale but i would appreciate some more q.a. in regards to these.

    I'm sure there are other ways to hold them, but it's not going to change that demand is going to far outweigh supply.

    If say every month we sold 1,000 DA Chromas, our stores would have the stock for that (though if it's a hot product we're usually very low on stock or sold out). But say there are 10,000 people who want it - inevitably we will disappoint 9,000 people.

    Now we can't stock up more than the 1,000 DA Chromas (because we don't know we're going to win Best of CES) and even if we did - we're bound to disappoint some people anyway. So one way or another, however we run the sale - there's bound to be disappointed people.

    And what we're doing for the Nabu X is to start screening for active users on Insider etc - but you'll get the problems of others complaining it's unfair etc. Especially for the appreciation sale.

    I think that the CES sales are still a great idea but I do think it's a bit frustrating that in no time at all everything was gone. Maybe just have a bit more stock in the future? Just a thought

    Also, I don't know how a lot of other Canadians feel, but there's been many times where I've felt very ignored by Razer, like the Nabu, it was only open to the US...sorry for off-topic :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

    Do read my original thread about the stock. We stock enough for a regular monthly run rate - there's no way we can predict we're going to win a Best of CES. It's like predicting we'll win an Oscar for a movie.

    i don't get why people are complaining at all, you have nothing to lose but if you're lucky enuff to grab something during the sale, it's a bless. razer does show appreciation but some don't

    i like what your doing for the nabu x it makes it available to people who are participant and truly fans of this company. I registered for dev and the three presales for the the nabu and it sucked seeing the sales sold out then the nabus being listed for sale by resellers at exorbitant prices. I fought that with the razer edge media dock and am fighting it now trying to find an extended battery for the edge pro. i love the company and products and innovation but man the resellers have been killing it for me sometimes

    You don't have to stock the items - If it is truly a customer appreciation sale then back-order the item, problem solved. 1 item per person, limited to orders during the time period of the sale.

    I really think it is the right way to do a sale from time to time, but i think the start time of the sale made it kinda difficult for some people. Here in germany the sale started at 3 in the night, which means you either have to get up early and start hitting the f5 button in the middle of the night, and hopefully get your gear, or you just get up like always and you can be pretty sure, that the item you wanted to buy is already sold out. furthermore if i stand up at this time, and i wouldn't even get the gear i wanted, i probably would be kinda frustated. I know, that it was the perfect time in america, but most of the europeans for example had to get up early for the sale, so maybe there is a better time for a sale like this to start. Maybe not at the rush time in america, but at a decent time in most of the participating countries.

    No. Because it will be impossible to have it "fully stocked" - i.e. to satisfy everyone by the time of the sale.

    The only time it will be "fully stocked" is when no one wants to buy a Razer product at 50% off.

    I've addressed this in another thread - do hunt for it in the forums - in short, there are very good reasons not to do backorders.

    I do have to say that it's awesome that the CEO is actually in the forums chatting. This is why Razer is awesome :)
