Yep, it's best to just embrace it. This is a long overdue upgrade, so I don't blame them for not waiting. The 900m series chips have been out a long time and it's time for them to go. I'm kind of surprised there was no Pro version at the show though...

Didn't they just release the NEW Razer Blade 2016 this March? Do you guys think Razer is going to refresh the Razer Blade again this year?

I would have thought they would have waited till next year to refresh Blade, and add this new Technology to Pro to push those sales.

I don't think they'll sell many more of the 970m at the $2000+ price point when you can buy another brand with a 1060 in it. Even if they don't release a 1060 soon, they'll likely have to discount the 970m model to keep selling them.

Doesn't this eliminate the need for the Razer Core or any other graphics amplifier?

I also agree with @Styna , I can't really see them refreshing the Blade with the 1060 until next year. They've gone through so many issues in quantity control and distribution that it'd be a major slap in the face to everyone who got (and is still waiting for) the current 2016 Blade. Also, it'd kill their new Razer Core.

You can put a 1080 in a Core...

  6. Sure can! And lose anywhere between 8%-20% depending on the game, settings, etc. (I own one and extensively use it). I think the performance gap on a 1060 based laptop versus $500 Core + $500+ GPU will be smaller than expected.

I'm a little peeved only 2 months in owning both the Blade 2016 and Core w/ GTX 1080 I would have been happy with just the 1060 giving me desktop GTX 980 performance without all the issues / latency of the Core. I'm curious to see Razers announcement on this.

it looks like the new razer in the videos has a different screen and looks like it is not a touch screen if that is the case it would suck a bit because im looking into getting one in 2017 and i hope it has it but what it seems like they are doing is replacing the 2016 current verison with this one and then in 2017 they will release a new one with most likely Kabby lake and a GTX 1060 or 1070 because they are going to want to stay on top of their game so if i had to take a bet thats what is going to happen so i hope it does as well cuz im getting one in 2017

I literally just bought the blade 16 with 970m... But if they release a refresh this year I have no choice but to buy it. The performance jump is too good to pass up.... Then I'll wait until the core matures and can compete in performance with the 1060 better.

Geez, I can't begin to afford a replacement at these prices. I need to make it last for at least a few years. That's why I'm rant hoping they announce soon. Razer is my first pick, and I'd even hold off a bit, but I don't want to be in laptop limbo.

well, as originally advertised the core was targeted towards the RBS. Although it is now impractical for a laptop with a 1000 series card, it could still be useful 4+ years down the line where you don't need a new laptop but want more gaming performance, or you got a cheap laptop with TH3 and want more performance.

Or if you want to do 4k gaming at home.

Which brings up an interesting question - how would you connect an external monitor to the RB 14" GTX 1060 AND use g-sync, since it'll be available?

Very true, considering that I saw a 1079 for around 500 bucks, an expensive laptop should be able to play games good too

there probably will be a touch screen version, albeit with an increased cost which imho would suck. intel has had minimal performance increases for a few generations now so you won't necessarily miss out on much.

isn't the external monitor required to have a G-sync chip? Only laptop screens aren't required to have one as far as i know. and yeah that would be good for 4k 1-3 years down the line.

Yes, you do need a compatible monitor. And you have to connect it with display port for it to work, at least to a typical graphics card. I just thought that since gsync will be available on the 1060, they'd have a way to connect to the blade to a gsync monitor.

If they do release a second version of the Blade 16 with a 1060, just keep your new 970m Blade's in excellent shape and return them when you get the 1060 ;)

EDIT: Wait, this talks about it in the 2016 Blade as if it already exists? What are the chances that's a real model from razer, or they put a 1060 in to write that?

it does already exist lol. several sources said the pascal laptops are already shipping from today and others will be released in the next few weeks. nothing about Razer specifically, but hopefully around MSI if not before them.

  18. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...vr_phantom_pro_006_14_gs43vr_phantom_pro.html , yep start ordering now. BHPhoto has all the MSI line of GTX 1060 laptops in stock starting at the 14 inch model up to the 17.3.

I can have it here Thursday free shipping / no tax!! Crazy, that model also has Thunderbolt 3 too!

Somebody on Reddit said a customer called the SF Razer store and they said preorders start in October. No idea what to believe.

That is mostly true as Razer will need to sell older "The New Razer Blade" with GTX 970M and put for selling\production these new ones with GTX 1060 ...

    Marketing ;)
